Indonesia Earthquakes Continue Today, More Feared Dead

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – More Indonesia earthquakes continue to strike today as the death toll from earlier earthquakes and the tsunami continues to rise. Today Indonesia earthquakes registering over 5.0 magnitude continue to rock the region southwest of Sumatra, the same location that has suffered over a dozen earthquakes in excess of 5.0 magnitude within three days.
Indonesia officials surveying earthquake and tsunami damage fear the death toll could rise with over 400 persons still missing. Between the quake and the 10-foot tall tsunami, 154 persons are confirmed dead. Officials confirm Monday’s earthquake, that registered 13 miles below the ocean’s floor, is the same fault line that triggered the 2004 quake and resulted in an Indian Ocean tsunami, killing 230,000 residents.

Yet to be determined is the lives of passengers at sea during this week’s tsunami. Local fisherman are combing the coast while investigators remain at sea.
After Monday’s 7.7 earthquake, three earthquakes struck in excess of 5.0. On Tuesday, four earthquakes struck in excess of 5.0. But today, three quakes in excess 5.0 struck. Today’s quakes continue to strike the same region, less than two hundred miles west of Bengkulu and Padang, and roughly five hundred miles west of the Jakarta.
