Tony DiSanto Exits MTV for Electus

SANTA MONICA (LALATE) – Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley have left MTV for Electus. Tony DiSanto after two decades at MTV is leaving as president of programming along with Gateley, senior vice president for development. Their next stop is Ben Silverman’s company Electus. DiSanto exit comes at a peculiar time for the network.
Lauren Conrad is returning and Jersey Shore and is soaring. “The only way I’d return to reality television would be if it allowed me to decide when the cameras stop,” Conrad has said. Lauren Conrad’s reality show return comes after months of networks allegedly fighting for broadcast rights. MTV won that fight under DiSanto. Conrad said of MTV in 2009 that “putting my personal relationships and struggles on television wasn’t always easy.” Yet she still missed her home at MTV. “A part of me is sad to say goodbye to something that has been such a prominent part of my life, but I know that it was time and I am very happy with my decision.” Conrad gave DiSanto on The Hills roughly 3 million viewers weekly.
Kristin Cavallari has called the network as home to engaging but added “nothing you see on TV is real. Fans need to understand it’s all entertainment. It’s all in fun. I would never put my close friends or a real relationship on a show.” The Kristin Cavallari Brody Jenner relationship on “The Hills” was completely fake, says Kristin.
David Janollari is expected to replace the exiting DiSanto.
