The Colony Finale – Escape Faces Militia

The Colony Finale - Escape Faces Militia

LOUISIANA (LALATE) – The Colony Season 2 Finale last night ended with the cast members finally ready to escape. But do they? The Colony Season 2 started with seven cast members; but by episode three, two new cast members were added. A final member was ended in episode 7. Last night, after weeks of preparations, the remaining cast members try to see if their final escape plans pay off.

For weeks, the Colony cast members drew from their backgrounds to build an escape boat. Robert worked on it tires; Amber and George aided on its propeller. But when a contagion strikes, Amber and Michael have to leave the colonists. In the season finale, after multiple attempts, the militia launched a last assault. As the offensive ensues, the colonists escape on the boat. But by the time they reach their boat in the bayou, the militia is ready.

Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel and President of Science Channel has called the Colony “a groundbreaking, genre-busting series unlike anything else on television today and we are excited to bring it back for season two.”

Bunting says that viewers have responded well to the show since it draws from Discovery’s core programming themes. “It combines key Discovery Channel themes of survival, exploration and technology in the most unique way possible, and the characters are imminently relatable — viewers will find themselves asking, ‘What would I do in a similar situation?’”

The series simulates a post-catastrophic environment where colonists have to survive without electricity, running water, government or outside communication. For season 2, series producers used a six acre section of Louisiana and designed the area “with experts in homeland security, engineering and psychology to simulate what the future could look like after a global viral catastrophe.”

Thom Beers, CEO and Executive Producer of Original Productions, said of The Colony Season 2, the following; “everyone knows I love to tell stories that feature everyday people facing extraordinary challenges, and the Season 2 Colonists will not disappoint. Their personal ingenuity, tenacity and pure grit and guts are unbelievable.”

Asher Brown – Bullied to Death at 13

Asher Brown - Bullied to Death at 13

HOUSTON (LALATE) – Asher Brown was literally bullied to death. Asher Brown, 13, killed himself after bullies terrorized the gay teen at school for two years and his school allegedly did nothing about it. His mom said it best in a message today to the bullies. “I hope you’re happy with what you’ve done! I hope you got what you wanted and you’re just real satisfied with yourself!”

No statements have been made if the parents intend to sue the school district. But today, outrage erupted from Asher Brown’s parents when school district spokeswoman Kelli Durham actually told local news that (she contends) no one had alerted the school or school district that Asher Brown was being bullied. Added to that, Durham’s own husband Alan was Asher’s assistant principal;  and he claims he never knew Brown was bullied.

KRIV-TV Channel 26 quickly asked classmates to comment if they agreed with the school district. They categorically denied the school district’s claim. “Numerous comments from parents and students on the Web site of KRIV-TV Channel 26 stated that the boy had been bullied by classmates for several years and claimed Cy-Fair ISD does nothing to stop such harassment” reports the Houston Chronicle.

Brown clearly had a charming smile. But he was bullied because he was short, because his shoes were in bad condition, because he couldn’t afford the latest trendy clothes, and because he was gay. The school was Hamilton Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. His parents sent an email just this month to the school about the bullying. The school even claims the email wasn’t about bullying.

In one instance, Brown was tripped, then tossed down a flight of stairs. When he landed, his books were kicked and backpack tossed. When he tried to get up, the bullies kicked him down more flights of stairs, standing and laughing.

And yet, in 18 months of terror, the school claims they never heard of it happening. Finally, last Thursday morning, Brown went to his stepfather’s closet shelves, found his 9 mm Beretta, and ended his life.

Funeral services are set for Saturday.

EXCLUSIVE: The Bishop Eddie Long Scandal Jet

The Bishop Eddie Long Scandal Jet

EXCLUSIVE – ATLANTA (LALATE) – The U.S. Senate was not on board Bishop Eddie Long’s claim that his private jet was being used only for federal tax exempt charitable status in 2007. That prompted a demand letter from the U.S. Senate to Bishop Eddie Long asking for explanation on what was taking flight at New Birth then. In the letter, the Senate demanded immediate proof that Long wasn’t using that jet for personal matters, LALATE has exclusively learned.

That use of a private jet is now front and center in the latest legal troubles striking the Bishop.

Today, one of the Eddie Long’s accusers again reiterated that he was taken on the private jet and flown around the world. That same accuser last week said Long diverted funds from his ministry to pay for the jet, cash, trips, and jewelry allegedly lavished upon him and other teen victims.

And while Bishop Eddie Long is trying to ground the lawsuits  before they take flight, the other question is what exactly has Eddie Long be doing with U.S. Federal grant funds and tax exempt status, and has it involved allegedly transporting young men around the globe for a non-organizational purpose.

When questioned today by local news, Jamal Parris again reiterated that he was flown on a private jet. That specific jet was the subject of a Senator Charles Ernest “Chuck” Grassley letter to Long in 2007.

Long said last weekend “My first responsibility is to my family. My next responsibility is not to address the world before I address my family, New Birth.”  But Long is also responsible to answer if he was using a private jet to fly young boys for personal purposes. It remains irrelevant if Long thinks the purposes were “righteous” or supported by the Scriptures.

Long’s representatives have not hid  that the Bishop did fly persons around the globe. But what was the purpose?  “A number of people travel with Bishop and he knows them” said his rep to news last week. “[Bishop Eddie Long is] someone who helped them like numerous individuals and families in tough situations.”

A five-page letter from the U.S. Senate Finance Committee in 2007 to Eddie Long came at exactly the same time that Long is accused of wrongdoings by the current plaintiffs. Long’s plaintiffs claim being transported for a personal purpose on a private jet. They claim Long was taking funds from his Church to lavish them with gifts, and running an act of alleged coercion for his personal gratification.

The U.S. Senate demand letter obtained by LALATE NEWS asked d Long to give proof that “detailed explanation of the personal use of assets of the tax-exempt organization (i.e. jets, employees, facilities) and an accounting of any replacements made to the tax-exempt entity for the personal use of stated assets for the years 2001 to the present.”

Long called the requests “intrusive”.

But the Senate had every right to ask whether the jet, and other assets, were being used for personal matters.  A $350,000 Bentley, living in a $1.4 million 20 acre home, and allegedly getting $3 million in salary and benefits have been previous accusations against the Bishop. Jeff Krehely, deputy director of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, investigated the salary levels of Eddie Long in 2008 and said that he had “never seen anything quite like [it]“.

Long said Sunday that the situation is unjust and painful.  “As long as man has to deal in life, you will find that life will be unfair, the rain’s on the just and the unjust. And we are all subject to face distasteful and painful situations.”

Colton Tooley Was University of Texas Shooter

Colton Tooley Was University of Texas Shooter

AUSTIN (LALATE) – Colton Tooley (photo of his home above) was the UT shooter today. Colton Tooley, 19, was identified by University of Texas officials as the man behind today’s shooting. Tooley, as previously reported on LALATE, was a UT student.

A news briefing by UT officials late today confirmed Tooley is a  from Austin. While initial reports said that his shooting began inside the Perry Castañeda Library, UT officials informed news otherwise late today. They say the shooting was started randomly, without motive, at the intersection of 21st and Speedway. A police chase erupted in which Tooley headed into PCL Library. As reported earlier, Tooley eventually killed himself on the sixth floor.

Shortly after the shooting, police warned students of a second suspect, also a shooter, putting UT on lockdown. “A suspected shooter in PCL library is dead. Police are searching for possible second shooter. Lock doors, do not leave your building,” said the e-mail alert. Officials later updated those reports as false.

Meantime, local police were dispatched to the 3200 block of Western Drive where Tooley is said to have lived at home with his parents. Local reports say the street is a cul-de-sac and is currently roped off. The Statesman reports that a crime scene truck is in position.

Tooley was a student in UT’s College of Natural Science with a focus on actuarial sciences, reports the Statesman; other reports say he was a math student. During his shooting, Tooley used a AK-47 assault rifle. No students were injured. SWAT, University of Texas PD, and bomb sniffing dogs were deployed on campus during Tooley’s attack.

Local news have yet to update any possible findings by investigators at the Tooley residence. His family has yet to comment about the matter.

University of Texas Shooter was a Student – Lockdown Ended

University of Texas Shooter was a Student - Lockdown Ended

AUSTIN (LALATE) – Like Charles Whitman, today’s University of Texas shooter acted alone, said officials during a news briefing today. School officials say the UT Austin shooter acted alone and was a student. A lockdown issued for the campus ended by roughly 1 pm EST but UT officials have yet to identify the shooter.

Initially, school officials had warned of a second suspect, referring to the second suspect as a shooter. Police during an afternoon briefing said that was not the case. The sole gunman used an AK-47 assault rifle. That shooter would eventually head to the sixth floor of Perry-Castaneda Library where he killed himself.

University of Texas, a campus that houses nearly 50,000 students, went onto lockdown as a second suspect was sought.  But after reports of an increased perimenter around PCL library, officials removed the campus lockdown. Officials quickly deployed buses to remove students from campus voluntarily.

Unlike Charles Whitman, the shooter is believed to have fired four shots but not injured anyone. Only two students are said to suffered nominal injuries during the initial rush for cover. Charles Whitman shot 14 people from the UT Tower in 1966 before being shot dead himself.

Kody Brown Under Investigation

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Kody Brown (“Sister Wives”) is under investigation for felony bigamy. Kody Brown’s polygamous entry to TLC programming has resulted in Brown becoming the latest reality star being examined by police.

Just recently,  Bryan Masche was arrested roughly one season after his new show featured Masche and his family of 8. Yesterday,  Bryan Masche and Jenny Masche confirmed their separation.

Now, today police in Lehi, Utah confirm to PEOPLE that they have launched an investigation into the life of Brown. He is married to wives Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn; he has 13 kids and three stepchildren.

The Brown family issued a news statement today saying they are disappointed that their reality show “fame” has now resulted in them being subjected to an investigation. And yet, while most people would avoid being investigated by police, Brown says it’s just a risk of doing tv shows.

Really?

Brown says “it was a risk worth taking”. The Lehi Police Department in Utah said they will turn over their investigation’s findings to the Utah County Attorney’s Office. They do not confirm how actively they are watching the tv show but do admit it prompted their investigation.
