Michael Turner and Ryan Mathews Injuries Updated as Not Significant

ATLANTA (LALATE) – UPDATE. Michael Turner and Ryan Mathews’ injuries have been updated as both not significant. Michael Turner suffered a groin injury and Ryan Mathews suffered a right ankle injury. Scott Bair of the North County Times reports that Mathews’ injury was not serious and that he could have reentered the game.
Mathews told news Sunday that “I felt like I could’ve come back in, but they said they wanted to wait. (Mike) Tolbert was running so well that they didn’t need to risk it, so their decision was to hold me out.” Chargers coach Norv Turner told news much the same, that “I wasn’t comfortable having him return. I don’t want something that might be a one-week injury to turn into a six-week injury.”
Ryan Mathews was out with the ankle injury after being pinned by Jaguars’ Kirk Morrison. Morrison landed on Mathews’ leg. Mathews was the team’s 12th overall pick in last year’s draft.
Meantime Michael Turner’s groin was also updated as not serious. Turner had already produced 75 yard on nine carries. Turner, like Mathews, was approved to return to the field Sunday but chose with coaching staff to remain on the sideline.
Mathews had delivered 55 yards, delivering 29 yards with two completions and 26 yards rushing on five carries. Mathews was replaced by Darren Sproles and Mike Tolbert.
