MIAMI (LALATE) – Nancy Lopez-Ruiz (photos below) has died in a car crash with her Suzuki. Nancy Lopez-Ruiz joined the Miami Heat as a dancer, her season was to start October. But on Saturday, Nancy Lopez-Ruiz of Plantation was killed traveling on her Suzuki GSX R 2003. She was 22 years old.
Lopez-Ruiz, a native of Nicaragua, was on the westbound lane of East Sunrise Boulevard at 9:30 pm EST Saturday night when she was involved in an accident with Mario Careaga. NBC reports Careaga’s “2009 Mercedes traveling behind her drove onto the median at the North Federal Highway split … Careaga, then steered back into the far right lane and collided with Lopez-Ruiz’s motorcycle. She was thrown from the bike, and pronounced dead on scene.”
Police are not sure if Careaga was drunk.
Eric Woolworth, president of business operations of the Heat, issued a statement today. “[Lopez-Ruiz was] a beautiful girl with an optimistic personality. Her great passion for dancing was contagious. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and teammates.”

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Brown and Sons Funeral Home in Bradenton, (941) 758-7788; the date has not been announced. This was to be Lopez-Ruiz’s first season with the Heat. Lopez-Ruiz went to Bradenton’s Bayshore High School.
