LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Gloria Govan (Basketball Wives), photos below, and Matt Barnes (Lakers) were set to marry this August. But that wedding didn’t happen and last night Barnes was arrested on felony domestic violence against an unnamed female he is in a relationship with.
For Barnes, the last four months has become a media turnaround ending in last night’s arrest in which he denies any wrongdoing. In April, Gloria Govan who appeared in Vh-1’s Basketball Wives told Essence Magazine that she and Barnes were getting married in August. But in that interview, Govan admitted that Barnes dislikes the show. Barnes had previously sold a radion station that he is “disgusted” by the show.
Matt recently told a radio station that he was “disgusted” by the show. Govan told Essence “I’m not really sure that he’s a fan of certain people on the show, but he’s entitled to his opinions and the show is not focused on Matt.” She also told Essence that the two were to marry in August and “excited”.
That was then. By August, Sister2Sister told fans that the marriage was off. Govan, not Barnes, opened up to VH-1, with the notable remark:
“This is nothing super dramatic. There was no infidelity involved, no window-smashing, nothing of the sort.”
Gloria added that invitations were mailed and 48 hours later guests got a text telling them the wedding is off.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department tells local news that at 4:15 pm PST Matt Barnes and his “girlfriend” were involved in a “physical confrontation.” The girlfriend is not named by police and not identified as Govan. Matt Barnes defended himself in a text late last night to Channel 10 reporter Bryan May.
“U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That’s the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want…” He later posted on Twitter “DON’T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN’T SEE!!!”
