Dove World Outreach Center Koran Burning 911 Controversy

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA (LALATE) – Dove World Outreach Center’s Koran burning plans for 9/11 is sparking international controversy. A Dove World Outreach Center (www.doveworld.org) Koran burning for Saturday is not permitted; the Center applied for a local permit fire ordinance and was denied. Yet Church officials say on their blog they will proceed to burn Korans on September 11, prompting General David Petraeus to warn troops overseas stationed in Afghanistan about anticipated backlash.
Writer Fran Ingram authors the church’s blog while Facebook pages like “International Burn a Koran Day” are surfacing as well. Petraeus in a statement today says the Church’s actions “could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan. It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.”
The U.S. Embassy in Kabul has issued a statement denouncing the anticipated burning saying it is “deeply concerned about deliberate attempts to offend members of religious or ethnic groups.” “United States government in no way condones such acts of disrespect against the religion of Islam… Americans from all religious and ethnic backgrounds reject this offensive initiative by this small group in Florida, a great number of American voices are protesting the hurtful statements made by this organization.”
The blog says of the 9/11 burning that “We are using this act to warn about the teaching and ideology of Islam, which we do hate as it is hateful.” The Church adds that its members do not hate any people,. Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center, has defending the burning by appearing on CNN and claiming that he doesn’t believe anyone will die in reaction to the Koran burning, saying such deaths would be “tragic”. The Church claims it seeks to “expose Islam” as a “violent and oppressive religion” and posts images that say “Islam of the Devil.”

Though I think burning the Koran is a horrible idea No one has any right to tell them not to. Our own citizens burn the American flag and are protected by law then others have the same right to burn the Koran. Chances are not a whole lot will come from it,either way I don’t condone the behaviour but they do have the right… sadly enough

You can burn it, you can do whatever you like with it but its a foolish idea, what is the benefits from it?
- Just it will make the gap between 2 most important religions more wide.
- It will rise the hates from others to America and the American people and also to Christianity.
- It will make Millions of people to know and like the Islam more and be Muslims.
- It mean that who do or did or plan to do that, they knew nothing about the true Islam.
- Most of all its so far from Jesus and what he taught, of peaceful and respectful for others whatever they are.
- You trying to link the Quran to the crime of 9/11, when it totally far from it. who done that crime they are not Muslims at all, maybe they are just put on a ( mask ) of Islam, and I am so sure that you knew that well already.
- Its a prove that this plan is of the Devil.
I hope you will re think about what are you planning to do. So sad that came from a church and from a what supposed to be religious.

i agree with u, it’s not the true muslims who did that bombings, they wer the evil doers who wer just thinking of their own benefits, not for the Muslim countries nor for their ppl themselves but their own benefit alone, i believe in every religion there is goodness in itself, so i am not after to what religion u belong , i am after the character of the ppl, wether ur christians , buddhist , mormons or whatrsoever it defends on how ppl believe, the most important there that whatever religion we belong one thing is for sure that we believe there is God no matter how we call Him.

The Koran burning is just an attemp to publicize this sad little organization. You are making the news and will profit from it. After all these years the good of religion always gets hidden from people who want to profit and control. If their is a god and he is just you will be punished for these acts. This brings me comfort

As a christian….One of the most important things is…DON’T JUDGE……a lot of people forget….It is not my place to judge anyone….and if they burn the Koran, they are judging…..Only God can judge…and once he does….whoever is right or wrong…he will deal with them on his own judgment.

People who think the terrorists are the ones who misunderstand Islam should read the Koran. Allah commands all Muslims to fight non-believers until all are dead or all submit to Islamic rule.
Go there and start reading.

I agree that it’s wrong for the pastor to threaten to burn the Korans, but at the same time, he is trying to make a good point. Why would the muslim people build over ground zero, after everything that happened.I’m not being racist or anything bad, but I think the president could at least show respect for the people killed in 9/11 and make the muslim people go build their place somewhere else. It’s not showing respect to the people that died in that event. I’m Christian, but are you people going to say that I’m judging, when I’m just giving opinions about this situation. I know that the pastor is judging which is not right, but he’s is just trying to say that it’s disrespectful to build over ground zero. I think that it should stay sacred, not changed, and a memorial to those that died in the 9/11 events. Off this subject, another thing that is messed up, is this nation was formed, so we could preach the gospil of Jesus Christ to the whole world. Our founding fathers (which includes a lot of our presidents) formed this nation for that purpose. If you don’t believe me, Google it or whatever. Schools never told you that, because a lot of people could care less about God’s sacrifice. Just remember that, when Jesus Christ takes all of the Christians to Heaven and the 7 Year Tribulation starts. I’m telling you, that we all need to get as right with Jesus as we can. I’m not being rude or anything, but God has gave us chance after chance to get things right, and still we would rather choose sin over him. So pretty much, God is sick of all the evil in this world. I’m not trying to push Christ on people, because God gave us freewill. God love everybody in the whole world, but he can also disipline us to get us back to him and doing right. I care about each and everybody in this world and just wish that this world was a peaceful world, but we’re destroying it. Lets try to quit all of this bad stuff and start over. God Bless Everybody In The World.

“But still yet, we make this country a Hell on Earth.” I meant to put this in the Blog, right after the Off This Subject sentence.

Yes, I agree, they must not build a mosque there, but that never give the rights for that man who called himself a pastor to do what he want to do. That crime did not killed or hurt Christians only, it killed and hurt many others, even Muslim people. If i have the decision, I will re built the twin towers again as they were before 9/11, I think that will be the best way for the ground zero instead of any other things, not a mosque nor anything else but the twin towers again.
The fact we all must keep in mind is, the crime of 9/11 even if it done by a dirty hands which were wearing a mask of Islam that never means its done by the Islam as a religion, exactly the same as any other crimes and the crime of that man who called himself a pastor, when he plan to burn the Quran, it never mean that will be done by Christianity, but that Quran burning plan is made by someone who wear the Christianity mask, but he is not a Christian, because it impossible that plan will be accepted by Jesus.
