UPS Plane Crash Dubai Kills Two

DUBAI (LALATE) – The UPS plane crash in Dubai has killed two. UPS (NYSE: UPS) says its plane crash resulted in two deaths, in an updated statement to news late last night. The plane had crashed shortly after takeoff in a military compound 10 miles near Dubai international airport. But new details about the tense moments before the crash are revealed today.
In a statement released Friday night, UPS said that at 8 PM local time UPS flight number 6, set to travel from Dubai to Cologne, Germany, crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane was a Boeing Co. 747-400 and had a flight crew of two pilots.
UPS is still unsure about the cause of the crash. But local reports say the plane reported engine trouble after takeoff, was routed to a government-owned landing facility in the desert when it then crashed. Others report “missed approaches”, as many as two, in the moments before the crash.
“We will … release more information as it becomes available, in cooperation with government authorities. We will not speculate about the cause,” said UPS’s airline and international operations manager, Bob Lekites late Friday. “Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time.” “This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause.” “Our thoughts go out to the crew members involved in the incident and their families.”
Some eyewitnesses to the UPS crash believe an on board fire erupted after take off. Saif al-Suwaidi, general manager of civil aviation, told local tv news “The pilot reported fire and smoke in the cockpit and was instructed to return to Dubai… After failing to land at the airport, the plane disappeared from radar screens and was found later (at the crash site).”
