WASHINGTON (LALATE) – While Alveda King to Sarah Palin are joining the Glenn Beck Rally (aka the Glenn Beck’s 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally), the Foundation behind the massive rally hasn’t gotten that much news coverage. The Foundation has been referenced by Beck previously in his FOX NEWS broadcasts with Beck detailing the Foundation’s efforts and the persons it has help.

But why exactly was the Special Operations Warrior Foundation selected by Beck for this weekend’s rally?

All profits of the rally will go the SOWF after expenses are covered. Yet it appears from a TIME Magazine news report that the Foundation might have been surprised by the news when it first hit, with SOWF staff doing “a little happy dance,” according to spokesperson Edie Rosenthal after she learned Beck’s decision.

The event cost $1 million, the Foundation expects it to gross $6 million and net $5 million.

Yet what’s fascinating from the Time Magazine news report is that SOWF called the shots on the program. Rosenthal says that, in entering into a contract, SOWF requried that no speech be political. SOWF also required certain speakers to be included in the rally. But for SOWF to be involved, it says the rally “cannot be political”. Beck’s statement about the organization on his program have not been political either. “We selected — I selected — Special Operations Warrior Foundation because it is an incredibly clean, well-run organization that struggles to honor commitment.

“We have 500 families that have to be taken care of. These are the elite. These are the ones that go in and do the jobs that nobody can do and they go and do it. And they don’t complain. They don’t whine about it. And they leave family behind. Isn’t it our job to take care of them?”

Beck understands the controversy that sometimes surrounds his views. But he has called upon news coverage to focus on the message of the Foundation. “I know this event on 8/28 has gotten a lot of heat and, unfortunately, not an awful lot of attention has gone to Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which I would just ask you to please look into.” For more, click here

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Stephen Strasburg’s Tommy John surgery ends Strasburg’s season. The Tommy John surgery will prevent Stephen Strasburg from returning to at least April 2012 said team officials today. GM Mike Rizzo, on a positive note, said ten of the All-Star game pitchers this year have also undergone a Tommy John surgery.

“What we’re dealing with here is something that’s very manageable,” said Scott Boras, Strasburg’s agent,  to the Washington Post today. Boras says most his clients have come back fine from the surgery and in some cases even better. “As a matter of fact, in the majority of cases, they’re better.”

Rizzo said he’s frustrated, but the reality is that pitchers break down. Manager Mike Rizzo told news reporters today that “Pitchers break down, pitchers get hurt and we certainly are not second-guessing ourselves. Frustrated? Yes. But second-guessing ourselves? No.”

Rizzo further told news reporters today in a conference call that “He was initially upset, but he has really turned himself from being upset to being focused on his rehabilitation. He’s determined to get the surgery done and begin the process of rehabilitation.”

On April 22, LALATE first reported the concern.  On that day, Rizzo first said the injury was to the flexor tendon in the right forearm. Rizzo said plate umpire Brian O’Nora heard a pop shortly after the pitch in question. “It’s a shame to see him hurt more than anything. It sucks that he got hurt. Brian said he heard something pop.” But Domonic Brown says he didn’t hear any such pop. Brown was on the plate when Strasburg delivered a 90 mph changeup in the fifth inning Saturday night. Dunn said at the time to ESPN “Obviously it scared him. But after seeing his reaction, I would probably say it’s not too serious.”

LAS VEGAS (LALATE) – Paris Hilton is dating Cy Waits (photos below). Paris Hilton and Cy Waits dating reports follow a summer in which Hilton has been linked to Paul Iacono to Taek Jho Low. Twin Brothers Jesse and Cy Waits were profiled in 2009 for their work then as managing partners at Tryst Nightclub (Wynn Las Vegas), Drai’s (Las Vegas) and XS Nightclub (Encore Las Vegas).

Cy spends over a hour working out per day he told 944 Magazine news in 2009. “If I have no pressing business meetings at the Wynn, I get in my daily workout at the gym. I usually start with a 10-minute run on the elliptical machine on level 25 to bring my heart rate up and get the blood flowing. I follow that with high-impact weight training for about 35 to 45 minutes with my personal trainer. After my trip to the gym, I check my messages and make calls as I head back home.” The same year the twins were named to Extra’s “America’s Most Eligible Bachelors” list.

During a recent photoshoot in Long Beach, one tattler said of Hilton and Waits “They are clearly enjoying every minute of their new relationship and aren’t afraid to show their feelings and affection for one another. Cy has never been happier, he truly loves and cares about her.

Insiders say Hilton’s parents are happy. “Her parents have known Cy for years and really like him. Wednesday they flew to Vegas to celebrate her father’s birthday and they all had a great night together.”

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Taylor Swift is dating Toby Hemingway (photos below). Toby Hemingway’s pics first heated up after he was inked to appear as her love interest for the music video Mine. Toby Hemingway also appears in the film ballet Black Swan. The New York Post reports today “They’ve been spending lots of time together.” Toby Hemingway is hush about the romance news with Swift’s press team simply saying “We don’t comment on Taylor’s personal life.”

This would be Taylor’s third industry romance following Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner. Toby Hemingway has appeared in other notable film and tv projects. Yet his role with Natalie Portman in Black Swan is the one making most news this summer. He appeared in Feats of Love with Morgan Freeman (2007) and had stints in CSI Miami and Bones.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – T.O. and Ochocinco left the Bengals batcave in the Batmobile this week for a news shoot featuring the Batman and Robin media machine for the upcoming Bengals season. But as football news are reporting today, T.O. and Ochocinco, while always shameless pursuing fame, are delivering great pre-season football numbers for the Bengals.

ESPN News Sportscenter mentioned this morning The Cincinnati Enquirer News’ latest report from the betcave aka Paul Brown Stadium by Joe Reedy. Reedy says that the Bengals stars are posing this week as Batman and Robin with the help of a replica of Adam West’s original Batmobile.

Yet, with everything from Evelyn Lozada reports to T.O. romance reports, there is much more to this pairing for the 2010-2011 season than a batmobile (pictures see here.).

Or is there?

When asked earlier this week, Skip Bayless said the T.O. Ochocinco pairing is not that good as many contend. He claims that he would take New York Jets receivers Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery ahead of Ochocinco and Owens any day.

But T.O. has delivered well in the pre-season including a 43-yard reception from Palmer. The T.O. Carson Palmer connection is what many are noting with T.O. leading the Bengals with 9 receptions and 108 yards in the pre-season by the start of this week. Owens signed with the Bills for $6.5 million in March of last year. He previously suited up for San Francisco, then Philly, and then the Cowboys.
