LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Farrah Abraham’s baby daddy Derek Underwood died during a car crash in December 2008 in which he and Zachary Mendoza were killed instantly with a third passenger surviving. But at the time that news of Derek Underwood’s death hit local broadcast tv on December 28, 2008, there was no mention of Farrah nor her upcoming reality show “16 and Pregnant”. There was also no mention the Derek was survived by a daughter, Sophia. This month, both the Star and US Magazine examine the tragedy behind the story captivating MTV News and viewers this month – the death of Sophia’s father.
The Star Magazine has previously claimed that Derek didn’t know Farrah was pregnant. The Star writes that “because the on-and-off again couple had split” Derek didn’t know. The magazine interviewed Derek’s mom Stormie Clark would said Derek and Farah “would have reconciled. “In my mind, I think they probably would have eventually gotten married.” Two months after his death, Sophia was born.
In 2008 KETV reported that Underwood was the driver of the vehicle that tragic night. Underwood was sober. But KETV reports that Mendoza’s mother, Jackie Kennedy, was charged with allegedly “buying alcohol for the boys the night of the crash”. KCCI reported that “The three teenagers were good friends who met through various sports at Thomas Jefferson High School.”
The three reportedly would hang out nearly every day. Derek’s sister said after of Underwood that he “would always cook for us, and all his friends, whenever they came to the house, he loved to cook, he was going to go to culinary school.”
Farrah says revealing her private pain this month on MTV has helped. “It’s hard to deal with the fact that Sophia never got to meet her dad. But now that I’ve come out on the show about it, I’m really happy I did” she tells US.
