Soda Butte Campground Bear Attack

COOKE CITY (LALATE) – A Soda Butte Campground bear attack has left one camper dead, two injured. The Soda Butte Campground bear attacks were early Wednesday morning in the popular destination. Reports say Soda Butte, Chief Joseph and Colter will remain close until at least Wednesday evening.
At 4:30 AM local time Wednesday, park officials found a man dead and a male and female couple bitten. The couple is expected to survive. Campers tell KULR TV Channel 8 that Park Rangers were telling Soda Butte campers Wednesday morning about the attack. The news channel reports gates to Soda Butte Campground were closed Wednesday with officials letting “campers in one at a time to gather their supplies Wednesday afternoon.”
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said “Investigators found a man dead at the campground at 4:30 a.m. Two other people, a male and a female, were reportedly bitten and later treated at a hospital in Cody, Wyoming. The identities of the victims have not been released.”
Ron Aasheim a spokesman for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, said today “Everyone appeared to have followed all food storage regulations. This is not typical bear behavior…It’s not normal.”
