Jack Tatum Dead at 61

COLUMBUS, OHIO (LALATE) – Former Raiders star Jack Tatum aka “The Assassin” is dead at 61. Jack Tatum’s death is confirmed by his family; Tatum died Tuesday in Oakland of a heart attack says former Ohio State teammate John Hicks.
Tatum was a three time Pro Bowler, won Super Bowl XI with the Raiders, but in recent years had grown ill. In 2003, he lost part of his left leg to diabetes and had not been seen in public in recent years.
Tatum during a pre-season game collided with Darryl Stingley (New England Patriots) breaking Darryl’s neck, paralyzing the Pats star instantly from the neck down. In later years, Darryl would regain some movement in his right arm; he would eventually die of complications at age 55.
Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel issued the following statement today: “We have lost one of our greatest Buckeyes. When you think of Ohio State defense, the first name that comes to mind is Jack Tatum. His loss touches every era of Ohio State players and fans.”
