GLENDALE, ARIZONA (LALATE) – Abby Guerra is alive despite initial belief Guerra was dead. Abby Guerra was discovered alive this weekend after a mix-up with Marlena Cantu’s body by hospital officials who reported Cantu alive and Guerra dead.

Marlena Cantu and Guerra were en route back from Disneyland when the back tire of their SUV exploded. The vehicle flipped. Passenger Tyler Parker passed.

Quickly, Marlena Cantu and Ashley Geurra were taken to St Joseph’s Hopsital in Phoenix.  When hospital officials received Guerra and Cantu, a mixup occurred. Guerra was identified as Cantu, suffering from severe head trauma. Cantu’s family sat by Guerra’s bedside thinking their daughter was fighting for recovery. Unfortunately, Cantu had already passed.

The mixup wasn’t revealed until a week later when medical records by the local coroner’s office where produced. The facial injuries to Guerra were so severe that it was difficult for anyone to recognize her. She still remains in critical condition with a brain injury, collapsed lung and broken back. Reports say the Medical Examiner’s office, the State’s Department of Public Safety nor St. Joseph’s hospital has yet to explain how the mixup occurred.
