WASHINGTON COUNTY, AR (LALATE) – PICS. Jessie Lunderby has now been fired for her Playboy photos. Jessie Lunderby’s Playboy pictures had originally put her on suspension. This week, Lunderby was fired for the photos. The Washington County corrections officer had been on a administrative leave since June. But Washington County Sheriff Tim Helder confirms that Jessie Lunderby has now been fired.
The reason? Helder says it’s a “business decision.”
While Lunderby has the option to appeal the decision to a county grievance committee, the statement by Helder of a “business decision” seems a bit peculiar. Initially the facility said its investigation concerned her conduct outside of work, conduct Lunderby said the facility knew and consented to.
In this case, the two sides told very different stories.
In June, Maj. Rick Hoyt of the Washington County sheriffâs office said Jessie was under an internal investigation over whether the photo spread was conduct unbecoming an officer or employee, involved not getting permission for off-duty work, and violated a policy about not engaging in certain types of jobs outside of work.
Lunderby disagreed. In an interview with AOL in July, Jessie said she informed her prison bosses of the pending Playboy pictures and they didnât say anything. âThey knew about it. I informed them of it; they had plenty of time to tell me, âNo, it canât come out.â ⌠They never said no.â
Moreover, Lunderby claimed she found out about her suspension not from the prison but from the press. Jessie said she was furious she read the news in the press, through a statement to local news. âI was furious. Thatâs my job. They put it into the news, and they didnât even tell me first.â
Helder said she was a “distraction with the facility” “Based on her recent actions, it appears that we’re the least of her concerns.”
âI feel as if my employer is betraying me in a way, because they knew about my posing for Playboy and now theyâre making a huge ordeal out of itâ.
So will Lunderby appeal the decision?
Jessie Lunderby said, when suspended, her initial reaction was âsue the pantsâ off the prison. But she says that she is so busy now with job offers she doesnât have the time to bother with litigation. Moreover, Lunderby has loved the fan reaction, obtaining support from her community and other women.
