It’s only fitting for the tonight’s awards to be from Staples. Kobe Bryant is one of two NBA nominees this year for best male athlete. Bryant is nominated against Drew Brees, LeBron James, Jimmie Johnson, and Albert Pujols. Female nominees are Maya Moore for NCAA Basketball, Diana Taurasi for the WNBA, Lindsey Vonn for Skiing, and Serena Williams for Tennis.

Other notable nominees tonight are in the Best Championship Performance. In that category, it’s again Drew Brees, Super Bowl XLIV; Anthony Johnson, Big Sky Conference Championship; Michael Phelps, World Swimming Championships; and Shaun White, Winter Olympics.
