Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters and Corrine Peters Ruled Murder Suicide

COPPELL (LALATE) – Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters murdered her daughter Corrine Peters and then committed suicide, officials now confirm. The deaths of Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters and daughter Corrine Peters leaves a city in shock, a community left searching for answers.
In a story broke before dawn today here, a local medical examiner now says Mayor Peters killed herself in a single gunshot to her head after taking the life of her teenage daughter. The City’s mayor pro term and now acting mayor Bob Mahalik says no one saw warning signals. That is, however, until the Mayor failed to show up at a meeting hours earlier.
Last night police were called to the 700 block of Greenway Drive in Coppell. There they found dead the City’s mayor and her 19 year old daughter. But not found was a forced entry. Immediately investigators were heading their investigation to a murder-suicide.
Coppell is a town of 40,000, roughly 15 miles outside of Dallas. Peters, originally in software development, lost her husband to cancer at age 58 two years ago. She had been on the City Council since 1998, elected to mayor recently for a term to expire in 2012. Her daughter had just graduated from Coppell High and was accepted to the University at Austin. Together, mother and daughter lived in a charming 4,00 square foot home with a pool.
Mahalik tells local news that Peters was a great mayor and loved serving her town.
Reports late today from Coppell Deputy Police Chief Steve Thomas and his officers found at the home a typed note with a key to the house; the note warned of something unpleasant inside the home. The note gave instructions as to how to manage family affairs going forward and how to tend for the family dogs.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Send your love.

This is truly a tragic story. Perhaps antidepressants were involved.

This is a really sad story. I disagree with anyone that is blaming her actions on antidepressants. I can’t imagine what would go through a persons head to write instructions on what to do with the house, finances and even plans for the family dog…and then shoot their beautiful daughter in the head and take their own life. Outrageous…

I just do not understand this at all. To many people with mental or financial problems are taking other peoples lives. If you have a problem take JUST your own life, if that is how you want to handle what you are going through but leave everyone else alone.

The mayor may have found out some information with her work that was not kosher and was going to tell someone. Did they check for fingerprints, motive. I don’t think she killed herself and her daughter, the note is strange. My sympathy to her family and friends.
