Sugar Minott Dead at 54

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Dancehall reggae singer songwriter Sugar Minott has died at age 54. The death of Sugar Minott has been confirmed Sunday after initial debate by Wikepdia as to whether Minott had passed. (See updates below.)
On Saturday evening, unconfirmed net reports of Minott’s alleged death prompted a change to his Wikipedia page.
Before sunrise Sunday, Wikepdia listed Minott died today July 11. In recent hours, the Wikipedia page had been edited to reflect alleged death on Saturday July 10 (as pictured above). At roughly 10:20 AM PST, that Wikipedia page was changed yet again to state that Minott has not died. By 10:30 AM PST, the Wikipedia page was changed again to now state that Minott had died.
The Godfather of Dancehall, Lincoln ‘Sugar’ Minott formed his own label Black Roots in the 1980s. His Youth Promotion organization helped developed new talent. His website says the following about the organization:
“The Sound Youthman Promotion began to dominate the Dancehall scene by voiceing artist’s like Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, Don Angelo, the late Sugar Minott Tenor Saw, Nitty Gritty and Garnet Silk who did his first recording for the Black Roots Label. The list of Artists goes on – Tony Rebel, Colorman, Daddy Freddie, Johnny Osbourne, Steve “Shalom” Harper and many more.”
Under Black Roots / Island, Sugar released notable albums “Dancehall Showcase” and “Herbman Hustling”. Later works included 1999’s “Easy Squeeze” album on World, “Hidden Treasures” also that year from East Street, and “Good Thing Going” in 1998 from VP.
Sugar Minott’s death was first reported on Wikipedia before sunrise Sunday. There has since been no official statement on his myspace page nor his website page. His official myspace page lists that he was set to appear on stage in Long Beach today at the SeaBreeze Festival. Yet a visit to the The Seabreeze festival website (via cache) shows that the festival for Sunday was actually canceled on May 3 2010. “Due to the current economic climate, the increasing risks associated with the production of a large live music festival, and the addition of the current uncertainty of guaranteeing artist performance based on the current visa revocation issue surrounding major Jamaican Dancehall Reggae artists, Seabreeze Entertainment regretfully announces that the 13th Annual Seabreeze Festival will have to be postponed (moved to a later date to be announced) from its date of Sunday July 11, 2010. “
Sugar’s official myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/lincolnsugarminott shows a login today July 11 but no blog update since 2009. Sugar’s official website shows no update.
UPDATE #2 1 PM PST SUNDAY
Minott is confirmed dead. Minott passed Saturday in Kingston, confirms wife Maxine Stowe. Cause of death has not been released.

I am saddened by the passing of Lincoln “Sugar” Minott. Jamaicans all across the globe and reggae dance-hall fans have a lost one of our most prolific artist. One of my most enjoyable moment at a reggae concert was Sugar Minott’s performance in Reggae Japansplash 1993. He(Sugar), along with his his student, an up and coming Japanese Reggae Star, NAHKI, did a piece they called “Combination.” It tear down di place. Mi have di videotape fi prove it. Sugar, Don, Rest in Peace.
