MIAMI (LALATE) – LeBron James’ Miami Heat Jersey #6 has gone on sale. LeBron James’ Heat Jersey sales are expected to produce record numbers the first week.

James’ number will be 6, not 23. In spring 2010, James put official NBA paperwork in to switch from No. 23 to No. 6, as broke first by the Cleveland Plain Dealer at the time. James’ has used 23 his entire NBA career but wore 6 for Team USA.

In November 2009, James first hinted on a TNT broadcast he would switch to 6, asking that 23 be retired across the entire league in honor of Michael Jordan. On switching his number for the 2010-11 season, James had said “I’ve done it. I already sent it in. I’m going to be No. 6.”

Some found issue with James’ call to retire 23 but not 6, formerly of Bill Russell. But James had said the number 6 has a role in his life. His first child was born on October 6. His second child was born in the month of June, the sixth month of the year. And the number 6 was the jersey worn by LeBron’s second favorite player Julius Erving.
