NEW YORK (LALATE) – Winners of the 10th annual BET Awards will take the stage tonight. The BET Awards nominations were headed by Drake, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj.

Drake is up for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration twice ( “Successful” with Trey Songz and “Forever”) along with three nods with Young Money.

Jay Z is nominated for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Viewers’ Choice, Video of the Year and twice in the Best Collaboration category.  Nicki Minaj is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, and three nominations with Young Money.

Queen Latifah says tonight’s program should be “the best show on television.”

SONORA (LALATE) – Sergio Vega El Shaka’s murder has left fans in shock. Sergio Vega was murdered while heading to do what he loved most, sing for his fans. The murder (la muerte, el asesinato) of Sergio Vega leaves many questions unanswered still Sunday.

His name was Sergio Vega but was known simply as El Shaka. He was set to perform this weekend in Mexico on “The Pacific Tour” along with the New Llaneros and Chuy Rubio. To reach the tour, Vega was travelling through the Sonora region of Mexico. Local news note that El Shaka’s vehicle had local license plates, but was a red Cadillac. The Cadillac with VYM plate 1329 (Sonora) was carrying El Shaka and a translator’s companion.

Ye only El Shaka was gunned down, claims reports. Local press are not reporting if more than the two persons were in the Cadillac, if El Shaka was the driver, and if bullets were shot at the entire Cadillac or just directed at El Shaka.

Vega was from the region, born Ejido, Sonora. Yet no arrests have been made, no suspect alerts released. Sergio was child 8 of 13. He was first know as a member of the Vegas Brothers, along with brothers Jesus and Ramon.

Vega had just earlier denied reports of his death but explained that Northern Mexico, the region of beloved Banda music, often requires traveling through areas that required a cantante to be “entrusted to God”.

Vega was on tour promoting his current album, “Millionaire of Love” (Millonario de amor), that followed up his 2007 and 2009 smashes “Las 17 grandes de Sergio Vega” (The 17 Big [Hits] of Sergio Vega ) and “Quién es usted” (Who Are You).

For fans of “Shaka of norteño music”, questions remain unanswered still Sunday about this tragic death.

SONORA (LALATE) – Loved singer Sergio Vega “El Shaka” has been murdered. Sergio Vega “El Shaka” has been murdered, shot dead, in Sinaloa. The death (la muerte, el asesinato de Vega) came while traveling for “The Pacific Tour”.

The murder of the beloved cantante Sergio Vega El Shaka was while driving on U.S.- Mexico Highway 15. Vega was in the region on the named “Pacific Tour”.

Vegas’ car had just exited the toll booth at San Miguel. He was roughly just a few yards north of the booth when shooters opened fire at Vega in his red Cadillac with VYM plates 1329 (Sonora). In the shooting, an interpreter’s companion was injured but is believed to have survived.

The New Llaneros and Chuy Rubio were to join Sergio Vega on stage at Alhuey (Angostura, Mexico) for a concert this weekend on “The Pacific Tour”. The concert was abruptly thereafter canceled.

Hours earlier, Vega had to deny reports that he was murdered. But he noted the difficulty of the region. Sergio told local news: “Of course I walk with some trepidation all grupero, all the people who sailed in the northern and band music, and me navigate songs strong as the father of the devil, the two large figures, many corridos, any new place, yes feels and begins to think and is temorcito and should be entrusted to God.”

Businessman Jesus Tirado Camacho (“The Pacific Tour”) confirmed Vega’s death Saturday. Friends, co-workers, and fans have twittered their messages all night long.

Fellow singer Jenni Rivera twittered Saturday “He had 17 children …. shaka (As said in an interview) great singer Sonoran pride. Obregon Sonora and everything will be in mourning … and my account twitter too. Jenni Rivera. “

Ana Luisa Gomez, Vega’s manager, wrote, “My best friend is already in heaven, there is not a circus Shaka shaka is with God. Her manager tqm / tqm friends. Thanks to everyone was my best friend, my artist my everything. @ Analuisagomez your manager”

SONORA (LALATE) – La muerte del cantante Sergio Vega “El Shaka” is confirmed. Sergio Vega “El Shaka” fue asesinado.

El asesinato de Sergio Vega “El Shaka” ocurrió en Sinaloa, murdered on the U.S.- Mexico Highway 15, al norte de la Caseta de San Miguel. El cantante grupero Vega was in the region for a tour. He was inside a Cadillac with VYM plates when he was murdered.

While initial reports of his death were questioned, they were later confirmed by Jesus Tirado Camacho, the businessman who heads Vega’s Pacific Tour.

Just hours before,  Sergio Vega himself denied he had been murdered in the region but admitted the dangerous area and its impact on Banda Music’s love.

He has said “Claro que andamos con cierto temor todos los gruperos, toda la gente que navegamos en el norteño y musica de banda, y yo que navego temas muy fuertes como El papá del diablo, Las dos figuras grandes, muchos corridos, cualquier plaza nueva, sí siente uno y llega a pensar y tiene su temorcito y hay que encomendarse a Dios”.

En Twitter, Jenni Rivera tweets about the death of Sergio Vega: “El shaka tenía 17 hijos…. (Según dijo en una entrevista) gran cantante orgullo Sonorense. Obregón y todo Sonora estará de luto…y mi cuenta de twitter tambien. Jenni Rivera”.

Cynthia Urias wrote at 10 PM PST Saturday: “Hoy aprox ala 10 pm, (refiriéndose que a esa hora probablemente había muerto) si en efecto mi programa fue el ultimo q hizo”.

Ana Luisa Gómez tweeted: “Mi mejor amigo ya está en el cielo, que no se haga un circo el shaka de shakas esta con dios. Su manager tqm/tqm amiga. Gracias a todos se fue mi mejor amigo, mi artista mi todo. @analuisagomez su manager”
