NEW YORK (LALATE) – News reports that Doug Pitt, Brad Pitt, was named TODAY as Goodwill Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania are incorrect. Doug Pitt was named to that position in April.

President Jakaya Kikwete on April 19, not today, named Brad Pitt’s brother Goodwill Ambassador for Tanzania before a packed crowd at NYC’s Essex House on Monday. Pitt was honored for his humanitarian work.

For the event, older brother Brad couldn’t attend due to volcanic ash eruptions at the time from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano. Doug works to improve the delivery of fresh water in Africa. He is director of Africa 6000 International. His wife Lisa Pitt was in attendance at the April event.
