George Huguely’s school profile read for the 2009 season that he “ran most of the season on the second midfield … tallied three goals and added four assists in 17 games … opened season with one goal and one assist versus Drexel … [and] scored in back-to-back games vs. Cornell and Vermont.”

In high school he was an All-American, Under Armour All-American, fifth-leading goal scorer (87) in school history and 12th in points (136), first-team Washington Post All-Met after recording 30 goals and 11 assists as a senior, and first-team all-county by the DC Examiner and The Gazette.

He was also the Quarterback of school’s league championship football team as a senior and received all-conference honors that season and was named team MVP along with being an three-time honor roll selection

Huguely is from Chevy Chase.

Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo told local press today that a call to Love’s apartment shortly after 2 am today revealed “the obvious physical trauma to her”. Huguely was questioned four hours later. Police say the two “have had a romantic relationship but the exact status of that at this time is part of our investigation.”

Her family are not commenting. His parents Marta Murphy and George Hughley III are reportedly also not commenting.

“It was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse,” Longo said of Love’s death.

Love’s high school headmistress at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Baltimore said of her passing today the following:

“Yeardley was an outstanding young lady – joyous, spirited a wonderful person. I know we all enjoyed watching her on the lacrosse field and seeing her walk the hallways at NDP. We are proud to call Yeardley ‘one of our girls.'”

University president John Casteen issued the following statement today:

“[Her death] moves us to deep anguish for the loss of a student of uncommon talent and promise. That she appears now to have been murdered by another student compounds this sense of loss by suggesting that Yeardley died without comfort or consolation from those closest to her.

“She deserved the bright future she earned growing up, studying here, and developing her talents as a lacrosse player.

“She deserves to be remembered for her human goodness, her capacity for future greatness, and for the terrible way in which her young life has ended.”

George Huguely’s behavior seems to me possibly the result of consistent childhood abuse and neglect. There but for the grace of God go we.
