RELEASE DATE – Will Verizon have an iPhone June release date? A Verizon iPhone release date of June 2010 was anticipated in January this year. But now a Verizon iPhone release date of fall 2010 is anticipated.

Why the change?

The issue is the use of an iPhone 4G. New tests this week confirm successful testing for a 4G Verizon test. But that 4G deployment in certain limited U.S. markets won’t be until fall 2010.

Earlier this year LALATE reported insiders contending the Verizon iPhone could be here even soon – namely June. Canaccord Adams’ Peter Misek wrote to clients following:

“We believe there is a good chance that the ‘One more thing…’ part of next week’s presentation may include two iPhone-related announcements: namely, the release of iPhone OS 4.0 and the unveiling of iPhone 4G coming to Verizon in June.”

“Together with our semi-conductor partners we have ascertained that there is a reasonable chance the Asian supply chain is prepping for mass production of a new iPhone in March, for availability in late Q2, likely June. The phone will be carried on Verizon and hence will operate on the CDMA network; however, it will also support European GSM and HSPA standards.”

When the Apple iPad dropped, mobile insiders were expecting Apple to also announce that a 4G iPhone will be offered to Verizon customers.

The announcement didn’t happened.

But the net is still expecting the deal to arrive this fall … or maybe this June. That’s even before new Verizon 4G test results surfacing today. Later this year, Apple’s exclusivity contract with AT&T expires on in the iPhone. So will today’s 4G timeline results push Apple to open iPhone to Verizon also this winter?

By all accounts, it appears highly likely now.

Apple released this week results of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) tests. Those tests ran between Boston and Seattle. The numbers were as follows:

Peak Download Speeds: 40-50 Mbps
Avg Download Speeds: 5-12 Mbps 600-1.4 Mbps)
Peak Upload Speeds: 20-25 Mbps
Avg Upload Speeds: 2-5 Mbps

And how about timeline? Insiders say that Verizon will arrive months before AT&T with Verizon saying today 4G LTE will be available fall 2010 in 25-30 markets, expanding nationally to full reach by 2013.

Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook said prior to the iPad launch the following:

“AT&T has acknowledged that they are having some issues in a few cities and they have very detailed plans to address these,” he said. “We have personally reviewed these plans and we have very high confidence that they will make significant progress toward fixing them.”

Recently, Apple reported earnings beating street estimates driven by record sales of the Mac. Apple announced a 50 % rise in Q12010 profit to $3.38 billion or $3.67 a share with sales up 32% to $15.7 billion.

The stock is up double since last year.
