Runaway Prius Out of Control on Freeway!

Runaway Prius of out control on the 8 Freeway in San Diego! That was the runaway Prius alert that came in Monday, an accelerator stuck so bad that the Prius was speeding at over 90 mph with no help.
So the Prius driver did the obvious – called 911 – and told them he needed help. James Sikes had no idea what to do. CHP said that the gas pedal got stuck near La Posta Indian Reservation at 1:30 PM Monday. The breaks weren’t working either.
CHP said to hit the breaks and the emergency break pedal at the same time. That brought the speed down to 50 mph. The driver didn’t immediately turn off the engine. CHP speculates Sikes was concerned about loosing power steering. But at 50 mph, Sikes finally killed the engine allowing the car to drift to a stop.
No one was injured. Toyota’s response?
“We’re sending a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the car and find out what happened. We won’t be able to comment on what any possible problems with the car were until we take a look at the car.”
