NIU Shooting TODAY!

NORTHERN ILLINOIS – There has been a shooting at NIU reports NIU.edu. The NIU Shooting today was alerted on Northern Illinois University’s website early Friday morning.
Just before 4:30 am, NIU sent out an alert putting the university on lockdown:
“There has been a shooting on campus. Campus has been locked down. The suspect has been apprehended and is in custody. More details to come.”
Thirty minutes later at 5 am local time, the NIU shooting was detailed as near Stevenson Residence Hall with one student shot.
“NIU Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on campus during the early morning hours on Friday, February 19.
“The incident occurred near the Stevenson Residence Hall. An NIU student was injured in the shooting, and was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for treatment.
“NIU Public Safety officials are stating that the event appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals, and that the alleged assailant is in police custody.”
The campus remained open.
“NIU Public Safety officials are advising all students, and campus residents to take extra precaution on Friday morning, and to be alert for any unusual circumstances. If students observe anything that appears to be out of the ordinary they are asked to call NIU Public Safety at 815-753-1212. The NIU campus remains open, and all classes will be held as scheduled.”
Roughly one hour later, shortly before 6 am local time, NIU informed students that the campus is off lockdown, the shooter in custody, and a press conference scheduled at 9 am.
“Campus is open and classes will be held as usual. NIU Police & Public Safety has issued an “all clear” for the campus. The shooting suspect is in custody. There will be a press briefing in the Altgeld Hall auditorium at 9:30 a.m.”
