Kara DioGuardi slams Howard Stern as unqualified for American Idol. But Kara DioGuardi’s Howard Stern comments make her look contradictory and evasive in a new interview.

Kara says Stern is not qualified for American Idol in the same week that she says Ellen is perfect.

Kara uses music qualification as a reason to dismiss Howard Stern, but when asked how Ellen has music qualifications, Kara appears to not answer the question Kara says Howard is not a replacement for Simon but when asked how Ellen replaces Paula she appears to not answer that question either.

Kara first says she won’t comment “Right now that’s a rumor, and I don’t really know if I can even speak on it.”

Really? Comment is exactly what she does, paragraph after paragraph slamming Howard Stern and praising Ellen.

Kara uses the music qualification argument to dismiss Stern but then avoids discussing what music qualifications Ellen has.

“[But] I don’t think he has a musical background or any kind of music… anything. I think that Simon — if you’re going to replace Simon — you have to have that background.

“You have to have somebody who knows about signing great artists and being a part of their career from the very beginning to the very end… I think that’s probably a precursor for whoever takes that position if they’re not a big artist who’s been through it themselves.”

Kara then says Ellen takes her job seriously. So is the suggestion that Stern would be hired to not take it seriously?

“We’re all there to do one thing and that’s to find the greatest contestant that we can find. That’s what the focus is, and I know Ellen and Simon both take that seriously.”

Ellen filled the seat emptied by Paula Abdul and Stern if hired would do so for Simon’s chair. But in one interview, Kara slams Stern as not a replacement for Howard but won’t discuss Ellen’s replacement of Paula.

“I really don’t want to speak about Paula’s absence because you can’t really compare Paula and Ellen. They’re completely different and I think they both bring something valuable to the table.”

Rather than this mess of contradictions, Kara should have simply admitted that neither Howard nor Ellen have music backgrounds but Ellen fits the show and Howard doesn’t.
