One Big Happy Family TLC!

TLC premieres tonight One Big Happy Family. But One Big Happy Family is getting one big bad review.
One Big Happy Family, which is basically about an overweight family, is getting a C- from the Boston Herald which calls the show exploiting a family that needs help, not a tv show.
If you don’t like the show, don’t worry – there are only 6 episodes.
TLC explains:
This six-part series profiles the Coles, a close-knit family of four dealing with life as a morbidly obese household. Weighing in at a collective 1,400 pounds, each half-hour episode follows the family on their journey of self-improvementchronicling everything from their everyday struggles to the larger picture of why they overeatas they attempt to lose weight to ultimately save their family from dire health complications.
Obesity rates are at an all time high in America, and the Coles are part of the growing epidemic. The same rituals that have strengthened their family bondsuch as cheerful family gatherings around the kitchen table and hilarious “truth nights” over cheesecakehave enabled the bad behaviors responsible for their size. With Mom, Dad, daughter and son each weighing in at well over 300 lbs., the Coles are reminded daily that they literally do not fit in, as everyday situations such as buckling a seatbelt and sitting in a restaurant booth are challenging.
But, as big as they are, their love for each other is even biggerand when one of the family members is diagnosed with a life threatening health issue, the family unites to change their lifestyle for good. With a healthy dose of humor and love, ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY spotlights the Coles as they pull together as a family to tackle the patterns that are keeping them overweight. Without the help of a nutritionist or personal trainer, the family has only each other to rely on to drop the pounds. It’s a long and emotional process full of trial and error and late night “cheats,” but through it all, they have each other. No matter what obstacles they encounter or how embarrassing a situation may be, the Coles continue to motivate one anotherand are determined to accomplish their goal of attaining a healthier lifestyle as a family.
Family members even include a 16 and 14 year old who each are over 300 lbs.
Norris, 41 and 340 lbs., is a stay-at-home Dad who cooks, cleans and loves taking care of his wife and kids almost as much as his best friendthe family dog, Coal;
His wife, Tameka, 36 and 380 lbs., supports the family and manages to be both the disciplinarian and the comedian in the house;
Amber, 16 and 348 lbs., is a thoughtful young girl who loves to write. Entering her senior year in high school, she is about to start dating and getting ready for college;
Shayne, 14 and 308 lbs., is a rising sophomore in high school and always the life of the party

Obesity is at an all time high, and getting higher. This family needs professional help. I believe that the Coles can make life changing habits, and that they are on the right tract…but, and a very BIG but…they need professional help. Doctors, nutritionists, and trainers. I wish them luck and I will be there watching and routing for this very loving family

The show and family are realistic regarding the obesity epidemic and the struggles involved with losing weight. Everyone doesn’t have the opportunities to get on shows like the Biggest Loser for professional help or have resources for help with nutrition or physical activity. I will also watch and wish the best for this family. I also hope the network provides the same support and encouragement it has provided to other shows. This show can actually help others. I feel this family is genuine in their efforts to improve.

I really liked the show. At first I was nervous but when I saw the love, I was so happy! I am pulling for this family. I pray they make it and become an inspiration to all families struggling to be healthy! God Bless.

i found this show disgusting and an effort to be cute when there is no cuteness…i understand the need for these individuals to lose weight, but so far they only appear to be asking for sympathy….and to get recognized! They do need help but not praise…..and daddy needs to get a job..

Don’t think they are trying to be cute. They definately need life saving help.

I admire this family, they are
working really hard to get the
whole family in shape, I disagree with the person in Boston who says they shouldn’t be on tv. They are showing people that large amts of weight
can be lost with motivation and
excerise and not with surgery.
They are doing great and I love
to watch them. Please bring them back. Lp.
