CNN reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists the leading cause of death for American women around Brittany’s age as (1) unintentional injury, (2) malignant tumors, and (3) heart disease.

But one report, lost in the gossip running, was Murphy’s 2001 interview about her health. Murphy confirmed she had a heart condition, a heart condition that was there as a child and there as an adult. While not using the term “heart disease”, Murphy confirmed she had a heart “condition.”

A 2001 interview by Murphy to Michael Adams detailed her lifetime struggle with the heart problems. Adams recalls his interview with Murphy in an email statement Sunday.

But in 2005, a Jane Magazine interview asked Murphy if she had an eating disorder. She said no.

“All right. See, you’ve now met my mom. And if you met the rest of my family you’d understand that if any of these things were true, I wouldn’t be speaking with you right now. I would’ve had interventions. We’re all very close. If anything is even mildly wrong — from a heartbreak to a life decision — the whole family weighs in on it. So I wouldn’t be allowed, and I wasn’t raised that way. And again it’s very unfortunate that so many people have that problem. But you’ve seen me eat. I love food. I don’t know, God gave me hollow legs or something. “
