New Moon Box-Office Records!

New Moon has already set box-office records. How high were New Moon’s box-office numbers? Here are the New Moon numbers so far.
On Thursday, New Moon made $26.3 million.
On Friday, New Moon reportedly brought in over $72 million. That number sets two records. First,$72 million is the single highest one day sales in U.S. history, previously set by Dark Knight at $67.2 million in 2008. Second, $72 million is the highest Friday box office number ever.
How big will the weekend box-office returns be? Clearly over $110 million, perhaps exceeding $120 million, in the U.S. That would be the highest number for 2009 and one of the top 10 of all time. B
But where could New Moon’s first weekend rank in the record books?
LALATE is forecasting New Moon’s opening weekend will be the 4th biggest ever. The Dark Knight (2008) is number 1 at $158.4 M, Spider Man 3 (2007) is number 2 at $151.0 M, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006) is number 3 at $135.6M. The current number 4 slot is held by Shrek The Third (2007) with $121.6M.
Amazing numbers considering Summit spent only $50 million to make New Moon.
