New Moon Box-Office Records!

UPDATE #2 New Moon has now set three box-office records this weekend. New Moon’s box-office numbers are so high that by Monday you could see a fourth record.
Before sunrise, LALATE told you the first two records. Now another record has been revealed.
First, New Moon’s Friday $72 million one day draw was the biggest Friday box-office return ever. Second, that number is the biggest one day return. It destroys the previously record set in 2008 by Dark Knight at $67.2 million.
Third, New Moon is expected to produce the biggest weekend return of 2009. How big?
LALATE is forecasting New Moon’s opening weekend will be the 4th biggest ever. The Dark Knight (2008) is number 1 at $158.4 M, Spider Man 3 (2007) is number 2 at $151.0 M, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006) is number 3 at $135.6M. The current number 4 slot is held by Shrek The Third (2007) with $121.6M.
Amazing numbers considering Summit spent only $50 million to make New Moon.

I feel a personal satisfaction in the success of New Moon . A movie about young people who are unbelievably in love, who fight for that love regardless of the costs, and who are NOT jumping in and out of bed with everyone in sight, SHOULD in this day and age be THIS PHENOMENON. This is not a vampire movie. This is ultimately a love story. If you didn’t see Twilight, you missed the basis of the passion behind Edward and Bella, if you saw it and didn’t like it, you didn’t understand it. Why does a movie have to end the world or be so violent that you cringe in your seat each and every second. The whole world has wrapped their hearts around these characters. They are decent, caring young people trying to understand and respect their choices and the changes in their lives. They are us. I hope they stick to the books, and continue to be exactly who they are, because we are all in love with each and every one of them, just as they are. The whole world is in love with them, which is obvious. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot understand that every once in a while, Shakespeare can take a holiday, and 2012 can have its own audience, but some of us can love Twilight, New Moon and Bella, Edward and Jacob and feel good about that.
