EN VIVO! See the Yankees Parade EN VIVO de Nueva York a 11 AM EST today! The Yankees Parade today will pass through the City and the Canyon of Heroes.

Sports fans will welcome the Yankees to their first parade in 9 years. The Canyon of Heroes name represents the vertical presence of massive sky scrappers along its path. The Canyon’s history is remembered with granite stripes embedded into the sideways. The stripes along the route list past parade honorees.

The Canyon of Heroes’ path has been traveled by athletes since 1924. The first athlete honorees were the U.S. Olympians that year. The first ever parade was an impromptu one, following the 1886 dedication of the Statute of Liberty. The last time a ticker-tape parade was used was for  the 2008 New York Giants.

The price tag for today’s parade will be $331,000. The cost is paid almost entirely by the city’s marketing arm NYC&Co. As much as 50 tons confetti and shredded paper will be thrown today.

The 2009 Yankees Parade will be FRIDAY at 11 am EST.
