Yankees Ticker-Tape Parade!

New York is getting another Yankees Ticker-Tape Parade! The route for Ticker-Tape Yankees Parades is familiar by now.
This will be the Yankees’ 9th ticker-tape parade. The Giants had New York’s last ticker-tape parade in 2008. The Mets have had three, and the Rangers one.
This decade, ticker-tape parades have only been held for sports franchise. But among individuals, the most parades have been given to Richard E. Byrd, the US Navy Rear Admiral who served in World War II. In the 1990s, ticker-tape parades were used to honor the achievements of veterans and the work of Nelson Mandela.
The first such parade was impromptu, to honor the dedication of the Statute of Liberty in 1886. The first athletes to be given a ticker-tape parade were the 1924 Olympic team. And the only scientist ever honored was Albert Einstein three years earlier.
The route parades take is through the Canyon of Heroes. The name is afforded to the verticality of buildings on the path. Today more than 200 black granite stripes embedded along the sidewalks pay tribute to the past honorees of ticker-tape parades.
The Yankees 2009 Ticker-Tape Parade starts at 11 am EST this FRIDAY!
Over 3.5 million fans are expected to show. NYC Transit will announce Thursday subway adjustments for the additional passengers.
