Canyon of Heroes New York!

New York’s Canyon of Heroes route hasn’t hosted a New York Yankees Victory Parade in 9 years. But the Canyon will have new Heroes and familiar faces come this Friday.
The Canyon of Heroes name comes from the vertical presence of massive sky scrappers along its path. The Canyon’s history is remembered with granite stripes embedded into the sideways along the route listing past parade honorees. And the Canyon’s parade financing has become an artform for NYC officials.
The price of Friday’s Canyon of Heroes ticker-tape parade is unchanged, as is its financing. The price tag Friday will be $331,000 paid almost entirely by the city’s marketing arm NYC&Co.
The Canyon of Heroes’ path has been traveled by athletes since 1924. The first athlete honorees were the U.S. Olympians that year. The first ever parade was an impromptu one, following the 1886 dedication of the Statute of Liberty.
And the amount of ticket-tape hasn’t changed in recent years - as much as 50 tons confetti and shredded paper.
The 2009 Yankees Parade will be FRIDAY at 11 am EST. Stay with LALATE for live coverage of the parade.
