White House Assistant Chef Sam Kass was profiled on LALATE in January after Kass was named to the post under Cristeta Comerford, executive chef.

Today Chef Sam Kass brings the excitement of healthy living to the White House.

Kass has no culinary training, never ran a restaurant;  but it is his use of healthy ingredients is all that matters. In a new article today, Kass sits down with Rachel Swarns of the New York Times to discuss how he opts for foods void of fertilizers and pesticides.

Just two years ago, Sam Kass was just a line cook. Kass then became the Obamas’ personal chef in Chicago. Now Kass is the number 2 chef to the chief at the White House, a government job. Michelle Obama describes Sam Kass as someone who “knows what they like, and he happens to have a particular interest in healthy food and local food.”

Sam reports to Comerford who was appointed by George Bush.

Two years ago, Sam was line cook at Avec. Reportedly “a Chicago native, Mr. Kass graduated from the University of Chicago and received his formal training at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Europe. He then went to work at Avec, a Chicago wine bar serving Mediterranean food. “

He was recently named one of “Barack’s Beauties” – the top 100 Most Beautiful people of 2009.
