Canyon of Heroes!

The Canyon of Heroes is getting another ticket-tape parade. The Canyon of Heroes describes an area of lower NYC that has hosted ticket-tape parades since at least the 1940s.
Next for the Canyon of Heroes will be your 2009 World Series Champions, New York Yankees. As much as 50 tons of confetti and shredded paper is dropped. The last parade through the Canyon was the 2008 New York Giants. That parade cost $331,000 but nearly all funds covered by NYC & Co.
Today you can see black granite strips embedded in the sidewalks listing the previous ticket tape honorees. The earliest believed ticket tape parade was impromptu, in 1886, for the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The only scientist to get a ticket tape parade was Albert Einstein in 1921. And the first believed athletes to be honored were U.S. Olympic champions in 1924.
The 2009 Yankees Parade will be FRIDAY at 11 am EST. Stay with LALATE for live coverage of the parade.
