I really admire Machida, but this time the winer had been Shogun……. This is business, bets, that stuff that will kill this sports as well as they did with boxing……. That’s why The judges gave the fight to Machida….. Clearly Shogun Rua Won……. And believe me: I am fan of Machida.

That was terrible, Shogun was the clear winner!! Dana had better get this in check or i’m out

Shogun clearly won that match. He had more strikes overall than Machida did throughout the 5 rounds and also should have scored points for being the aggressor. This is typical for the UFC as Dana makes the final decision. Most likely cause the UFC has spent so much money to date on marketing Machida….what a crooked business.

you know i want to see a point by point over view of the match, Rua did kick him alot but Lyoto got in a lot small punches..now the question is : do those small punches count as 1 point each? if so i can kinda see how he won. Lyoto had a lot small counter punches which cud of won him the match in points…

I too am a Machida fan and I feel that there is no way the judges should have scored it the way that they did. Shogun did way more damage.. Machida had virtually nothing that was effective. He was still able to remain mostly elusive in that he did not allow anything other then A LOT of leg kicks and some good body shots. We better see a rematch!!

Forget small punches, it clearly was’nt enough to give Machida the nod. Most def not unanimous.

Rua won, he set the pace the complete fight. Machida’s puzzle missed a few pieces tonight.

    Game Over.

Machida is an amazing fighter and a true Champion no doubt about that, but this time Mauricio Shogun Rua won the fight, he was chasing Machida all the time, powerful kicks that hurt Machida’s leg and ribcage, not to mention that Machida Bleed cuts on his nose and superior lips…. I want to see a rematch.

Sorry you are all wrong. You must understand MMA Scoring before you talk. Just because someone has more strikes doesn’t mean they are the winner. It’s 1. Effective Aggressivness (Lyota won) 2. Effective Technique (Lyota won) 3. Cage/Ring control (Rua won) 4. Defense/Escapes (Lyota won, he is elusive and avoided takedowns)

I am so glad this is a unanimous opinion. I cannot believe they gave Machida the fight… I have lost alot of respect for the UFC after this

    Steve,

Dana told Rua he won the fight. Did anyone else see that?

ummm pretty sure shogun took agressivness and grappling along with control….ufc is turning into boxing

  12. chris_burns said,

a win is ok, but what they gave machida is undesirable Rua won the standing game and there was no ground game. it should at least be an split decision

  13. AJ Richardson said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 12:39 am

    I agree tyler.

I have enjoyed every fight that I have seen Machida in, until now. This was not a good fight. Both men played defense for five rounds. I would call it a disappointing draw. If I had to pick a winner I would have said Rua but he didn’t deserve the win either. He did not clearly beat Machida, but he had the best plan of all of the fighters that have tried. A rematch will be needed, but if both guys are gonna stand and play defense and look to counter then it needs to be a ten round fight.

let me kinda make a point i have have watched the fight 5 times and made my desicion machida one because he countered every1 on shoguns blows wit kicks and sometimes punches i believe round 1 was a draw 2 machida 3 machida 4 draw and 5 rua go and look at the counters and how many times rua ran back and covered and machida cleary got the better of the hits in my opinion and i love both these guys they both great fighters

Steve ur a , lyoto machida was clearly dominated, jonath v ur a dumbass because you cant spell ur name. YOU 2 ARE PART OF AMERICAS DOWNFALL TO AUTISM

  17. Walter said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 1:30 am

There will be a rematch and hopefully we’ll see the best of both of them, then we might see somebody knocking somebody out… Machida knows he lost this fight he can’t hide it , that’s sad because I like the guy and still find him an amazing fighter, Mauricio won guys that was clear but he hasnt completely dominated Machida, he only won the fight …

i am disgusted with this desicion tonight. Shogun won at least 4 out of 5 rounds. I was pulling for Machida for the entire night and i didn’t even think shogun deserved a title shot. I think shogun had one of the biggest robberies pulled on him tonight

  20. rosstheboss said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 1:52 am

Shogun won this. He dominated all five rounds and did way more damage. Give shogun his belt !!!!

  21. NotDeadYet said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 2:35 am

the fact is..the fight was not good enough by either side.
they both put in just the same. shogun with his kicks and lyoto with his punches and kness to the body..because neither side give more then the other it wasnt fair to take the belt away from the one who already had it..and yea i am a machida fan

  22. Machida! said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 2:49 am

Machida deserves this belt, the fights were equally fought. whenever shogun kicks him…machida has his knee in him. I would say that this is an equal fight. Shogun hasn’t prove anything at all in this fight. Go Machida

  23. NotDeadYet said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 3:03 am

lets not say shogun didnt prove anything…cause he did..he gave machida a great run for his belt..better then any fighter to ever face machida. machida deserves to keep his belt but not by unanimous decision..the rematch will be better

  24. Jimmy said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 9:21 am

    NotDeadYet,

what forrest did to rampage was not enough to take the belt away but they did. why? because forrest did exactly what shogun did.

Honestly…i was hoping that Machida would Win…and while i was watching the gight The only Time i was Worried was the last minute in the 5fth round…EVERY TIME rua would try to knee Machida Machida would land a punch in his face….Rua missed like half his shots and Machida landed huge hits every now and then, I was surprised that ppl actually thought Rua won. it honestly baffles me

  26. josh said,

    on October 25th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

Steve is a douche bag and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Rua was the clear winner. These are my two favorite fighters and for that reason i wasn’t actually pulling for either. I only hoped that it would end in a call that wasn’t complete bull fuckery

  27. NotDeadYet said,

    on October 26th, 2009 at 12:02 am

i agree with the decision but i dont think it should of been unanimous.i just hope noone hates on machida because he didnt score the fight..it was the judges

  28. Daniel said,

    on October 27th, 2009 at 9:21 pm

First off, yeah i saw Dana White tell Shogun he won too…

2nd you dont get points for defense because that would mean you dont get points for agression. Steve you cannot give machida effect technique or aggressiveness. Every time machida attacked Shogun blocked or countered EFFECTIVELY with authority. Ring control you could give machida 1 and half round the rest was shogun. Lets not forget Damage, Shogun had very little and Machida looked like he was ready to drop dead.

So people if you have to beat the champ to be the champ then you have to take the possibility of win by decision out of the picture and make them fight till someone taps out or gets knocked out and if that were the case machida was lookin like he was gonna be knocked out at any moment
