Bob Griese’s NASCAR comment makes you wonder what was Bob Griese thinking? The NASCAR Juan Pablo Montoya Taco scandal comment has taken the ESPN scandal of Brooke Hundley and Steve Phillips off front page Saturday.
Bob Griese’s NASCAR comment prompted swift intervention by ESPN. ESPN said it spoke to Griese after the incident and said that he would apologize again Saturday night. But is apology enough, or is suspension in order?
“During today’s telecast of the Ohio State-Minnesota college football game on ESPN, analyst Bob Griese made an inappropriate comment when discussing NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
“Bob apologized during the telecast, and plans to apologize again [Saturday night] during ESPN’s college football programming after his plane lands. ESPN has spoken to Bob and he understands that his comment was uncalled for.”
Griese says he wishes to apologize to “everyone else” who heard the remark. Considering it aired during Saturday’s ESPN College Football broadcast and is now going viral even late on a Saturday evening, “everyone else” is starting to become sizable. Griese said during the Florida and Mississippi State:
“Earlier today on our game I made an offensive comment regarding Juan Pablo Montoya as part of a NASCAR promo.It was regrettable and I should not have said it. I really enjoy NASCAR and I follow it closely and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Juan, NASCAR and everyone else who heard my comment.”
The exchange came during the college football broadcast when ESPN showed images of Sunday’s Martinsville NASCAR event. Chris Spielman said “Where’s Montoya?” Griese responded – “Out eating a taco.”Griese said later during that game: “Juan Pablo Montoya is one of the best drivers in NASCAR. I just want to apologize for the comment I made earlier in the ballgame.”

Wow are we getting to be a “sensitive” bunch! What if someone had asked where Donald Trump was? We could have said, “Out spending his money.” Oh my I offended the indigent population. Just goes to show that God is great, beer is good and People Are Crazy! Indeed.

Please what is controversial about Bob Griese’s comment? You couldn’t find a finer commentator than Bob and a finer person. There was nothing wrong with his statement. Someone is taking political correctness to an over the top degree!
