But Chica Med wasn’t any beauty pageant. Varela told her tha he was a ranchero, a cattle rancher. And that wasn’t true either.

Investigators say Chica Med was a cattle show for fake cattle ranchers / gangsters shopping to get a new girlfriend. And that’s who Varela really was. Many believe pageant titles were bought by these gangsters. But one thing Varela bought for certain for Guzman were gifts.

She tells CNN:

“There were the vacations, the cars and the luxury SUVs and, of course, jewelry. There was always jewelry. But there were small details too like flowers”.

“Of course, the luxuries don’t make you fall in love, but they do dazzle you. When you get dazzled, you get carried away, but then you ask yourself where is the love and my principles?”

Varela started with a Rolex for Guzman, then gave her a Cartier, then more jewelry, then cars, the real estate. She said mob bosses would send their girls to plastic surgeons.

“If they want you, the first thing they do is send you to their plastic surgeons to have silicone implants. But it’s them who decide how big you should be, not you”.
