Here are the details on the Red Bull Soapbox Race in Los Angeles today. The Red Bull Soapbox Race starts in 15 minutes at 1 pm.

The event is at 5th & Grand in Downtown Los Angeles, the first race at 1 pm and continuing all day. The event is free. Says organizers:

The wacky event will feature a field of more than 40 hand-made soapbox racers, driven by men and women daring enough to brave steep drops, a 90° turn and scary speeds in pursuit of achieving glory. But this race is far from your stereotypical childhood derby, and these are no ordinary vehicles! Angelenos can keep their eyes peeled for a giant nose, a bunk bed, a time-traveling DeLorean, Pac-Man, an Aztec temple and more zooming down Grand Ave and taking a sharp turn onto 5th Street next to Pershing Square Park.

There were also be a host of celebrity judges including LALATE’s fav Jillian Barberie.

While the outrageous crafts may be unfamiliar to the crowd, they will be met with some familiar faces! The day’s festivities will be hosted by celebs Jillian Barberie Reynolds, Paul Rodriguez, and Chris Ernst (aka Uncle E). To top it off, judging the forty daring teams will be a panel of more hot A-listers consisting of Erik Estrada, Kimberly Caldwell, Ronnie Renner, Stan Verrett and Sal Masekela. How do you get there and where to park?

The event area is sure to be crowded, so public transit or car pooling are suggested – this saves traffic headaches and adds to the adventure of the day. There is also parking available in Downtown, including large parking lots on Hill St. between 2nd and 4th.
