Cash for Clunkers Stimulus!

The Cash for Clunkers Stimulus program starts today. The Cash for Clunkers Stimulus doesn’t give you cash but subsidy vouchers toward the purchase of a new car. As covered in the last few months on LALATE, the bill aims to get older less fuel efficient vehicles off the road and more efficient cars driving.
You get as much as $4500 per car. How does it work? How much money can you get?
- If you are upgrading to a vehicle 4 miles per gallon more fuel efficient than you current vehicle, you get a $3500 subsidy voucher toward that car’s purchase.
- If you are upgrading to a vehicle more than 10 miles per gallon more fuel efficient, you get a $4500 subsidy voucher toward that car’s purchase.
There is catch. The following cars reportedly do not qualify for the subsidy voucher:
- 1. any vehicle not insured the last 12 months
- 2. any vehicle more than 25 years old
