An accident has happened at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. A crash of two barges into the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel today has resulted in the closure of southbound lanes.

The barges collided reportedly early Monday morning at the 17.6 mile section of the highway. Officials are not reporting any injuries nor estimated timeline for the problem to be corrected.

In August 2008, a three vehicle crash on the Bridge resulted in one person dead, two injured, after an eighteen-wheeler truck flew off the bridge after a collision with a Chevrolet Camero.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge has been deemed one of the “Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World”.
