Is the Post Office Open Today July 3 2009?

Is the Post office Open today July 3 2009? Yes, Post Offices are Open today July 3, 2009 which is not a federal holiday.
Unlike Banks - that can shuffling out their employees early today for their liking , and to cut costs and beat the holiday traffic rush - the Post Office is not afforded that flexibility.
But it’s a big more confusing than that. Post Offices will be open all day July 3, normal hours. July 4 they will be closed as a federal holiday. And Monday service is back to normal. However, Federal guidelines (listed below) allows other federal institutions to elect July 3 as a holiday for its employees if they wish.
Write down the below short list of Federal Holidays for 2009. This is a list released by the Federal Government specifically for the 2009 calendar based upon when holidays fall throughout this year. Also check out the second footnote below.
Finally local and state organizations can elect to close or open (full, or in part) for July 3:
Thursday, January 1 New Year’s Day
Monday, January 19 Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Monday, February 16* Washington’s Birthday
Monday, May 25 Memorial Day
Friday, July 3** Independence Day
Monday, September 7 Labor Day
Monday, October 12 Columbus Day
Wednesday, November 11 Veterans Day
Thursday, November 26 Thanksgiving Day
Friday, December 25 Christmas Day
* This holiday is designated as “Washington’s Birthday” in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.
** July 4, 2009 (the legal public holiday for Independence Day), falls on a Saturday. For most Federal employees, Friday, July 3, will be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes. (See 5 U.S.C. 6103(b).)
