PHOTO. Here is a picture of Camp Pendleton’s August Provost murdered on the base. Sailor August Provost was shot dead and then the shooter lit a fire to try to cover up the crime.

August Provost’s murder has resulted in one person in custody, another questioned, neither identities released to press. August was from Houston. Pendleton reps says August was shot dead in an execution style shooting, leading them to believe the motive was hatred for Provost, African American and bisexual. Rose Roy, Provost’s aunt, tells press August was being harassed in the days leading to his murder this week.

Capt. Matt Brown says the manner in which August was killed indicates the hatred:

“[I]t was like an execution-style killing, and nobody does that unless you have that kind of hatred in your heart.”

The Navy sailor in custody has given a statement which reportedly links him to Provost’s death. No details about the sailor have been released. However, reports say he has yet to be charged with the crime.
