Rusty DePass Michelle Obama Gorilla Comment

Rusty DePass is under fire for his Michelle Obama gorilla comment on Facebook. The gorilla comment has been since followed by DePass issuing an apology by saying “[t]he comment was clearly in jest”.
DePass, a GOP activist and former chairman of his state’s elections commission, wrote of the First Lady Michelle Obama on Facebook this weekend.
First, an aide to state Attorney General Henry McMaster had authored a Facebook post about the escape of a gorilla from Riverbanks Zoo Friday. DePass then posted the following response on Facebook:
“I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors - probably harmless”.
DePass reportedly told WIS News thereafter:
“I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest”.
DePass deleted his Facebook page thereater, the comment deleted, reports WIS.
Columbia’s mayor has said of the comment:
“The comment is reprehensible. There’s nothing funny about it.What he needs to do is simply apologize in a straightforward manner.”

Why do people like Imus & DePass have to apologize but Letterman gets a pass?
on June 15th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I wouldnt apologize for anything look what everyone has done to Sarah Palin and she’s beautiful and classy. Michelle Obama does look like a Gorilla and sits like one too, that’s not rude that’s the truth. She knows it so does everyone else in the world, so get over it. He could have said alot worse she is horrible looking and it’s a discrace anyone would say she is the next Princess Diana, that is such a insult to Diana. This country has gone to SHIT!!!

Letterman isn’t the first to make fun of Palins daughter being knocked up, look up Conan O’ Brien and Jay Leno jokes. The question is why is Sarah Palin getting up in arms now, it’s because the media is not covering her. She falsely accuses Letterman of talking about her 14 year old daughter, when he was clearly talking about the one who actually got knocked up, even if it was in bad taste (I thought that’s what late night shows were about). Sarah Palin is just exploiting her daughters here by using them to stay in the national spotlight.
Also Teena, do you really call what DePass just said an apology? That’s funny. His comments are racist, even if he’s too ignorant to realize it, which he obviously is.
P.S. Letterman did apologize but he’s not going to apologize for what Sarah Palin is accusing him of, because she is blowing it out of proportion and is accusing him of something that isn’t true.

Judyg, I want to thank you for your sad view of the First Lady of the United States. It is people like you that made Obama’s win so special. Keep it up. We need people like you to make comments like that more often so that ignorance, hatred, and racism in this country is outshined by love, and hope. Thank you so much and God bless you.

The reality is that we all came form the family of apes. Michelle Obama is incredibly beautiful in an non artificial way. She is smart, gifted, understanding and kind. An excellent mother also. I am proud to have her as a representative of the United States. Ignorance and jealousy is tough to overcome. The gentleman from South Carolina is from the old school, look at how old and ugly he is. This is why its very difficult to ever want to be a part of the Republican Party. You never know when they are telling the truth anymore. To many on the right wing are reaped in such ignorance that they can’t see people as people vs. us against them. I am so glad for modern science that has dispelled so much us this ignorance. The truth is we are all from one family, the human family, our origins are from Africa, we migrated out starting about 60,000 years ago, through mutations, sexual selection, and environmental factors we have have changed somewhat but the essense of the species is still the same. To compete with China, and India in the future we need the best and brightest from the entire population not the best and brightest from one group or race. Diversity can creat superior human beings as evidence by Barack Obama and Tiger Woods. Race doesn’t mean anything and scientifically doesn’t even exist. Religions were created by man to provide general rule and guidelines to survive and raise good citizens for survival of the group.

Sarah Palin is poor white trash and as a result, every bubba coming home from a Nascar race is going to poop in their pants over her. To knuckle draggers, it does not matter if her daughter “got knocked” up before marruage, it does not matter that she doesnt know Africa is a continent, it does not matter that she reads the newspapers to get information, it does not matter that her husband wanted Alaska to suceed from the United States…all that matters to these blue eyed devils and fake Christians is that….”She sure iz purdy”

Double standard. Make any remark about Michelle Obama and it’s racist. Anything goes if it said about Sarah Palin. The previous comment calls her white trash but that’s not racist. David Letterman finally marries the woman he “knocked up”. Maybe he could have just used “Baby Mama” in joke instead of the Palin daughter.

I ALWAYS THOUGHT SHE LOOKED LIKE A GORILLA AND OBAMA LOOKED LIKE SAMBO WITH DUMBO EARS.
ITS GREAT TO HAVE ANIMALS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

i’m not understanding why this has anything to do with Letterman or Palin or even why people keep bringing that up in discussion of Rusty Depass’ horribly inappropriate remark. It’s a red herring. What it’s really saying is that people who would tend to support Mr. Depass (ie: conservative republicans) have absolutely no defense for this and have to resort to changing the subject onto something on which they DO have a point (which would be Mr. Lettermans CLEARLY inappropriate remark about Sarah Palins daughter… it doesn’t matter which daughter he was referring to, it was a messed up thing to say and he knows it, which is why he’s apologized twice now.)
If you can’t defend a statement by one of your own then admit it. Don’t continue to paint yourselves as unreasonable, dishonest, goal-post moving weasels. Nobody is going to look at this and say “oh but David Letterman (who is the voice for no political party) said this about someone else… so it’s okay for a conservative PUBLIC FIGURE to say bad things too.”
it won’t happen.
What WILL happen is that people will be vindicated in their beliefs that conservative America is unreasonable, inflexible and absolutely incapable of applying logic or reason to argue their points.
…and they’ll be right.

Letterman didn’t get a pass. I love how the right loves to make up disparities where their guy is the victim. Letterman would have never made an apology if he got a pass. Speaking of, his was a direct apology where he admitted he was wrong, unlike conservatives (and I’m no liberal) who blame the recipient of their “apology” for being offended in the first place.
Knowing American racial history and the one-time common comparisons of blacks to monkeys, gorillas and apes what he said is blatantly racist. If you don’t believe it is racist then you probably are racist or are severely oblivious and ignorant to the racial history of this country. Why do statements like these continue to come out of the right? and why do they always act so shocked when they are accused of being racist??? This just proves how stupid racists are, if you have racist views and don’t want the general public to know then don’t say racist sh!t in public!
Believe me I am no fan of liberals but at least they are not anti-American like the conservatives. Sure, the conservatives claim to be pro-American but that’s hard to do when you hate most Americans for not being right-wing “Christian” who believe in all of our rights as Americans not just the right to bear arms.

Bad karma will come back to bite you everytime, Rusty…

The comment about the first lady is not good enough for the nation especially the young who are learning from the older generation. We just have to grow and weigh our words anytime we want to say things abut public figures. Let us continue to correct each other

Lol!! Judy G.
Sweety, u need to get some serious advice before u speak ur mind on this internet monster. If those words don’t come back to bite u, I’ll be very surprised. I just “hope” ur not one of America’s highly educated “Professionals” in charge of managing America’s future “Professionals”. Even worse, pls don’t tell me ur a “stay at home mom” cause I’d hate for some innocent children to grow up hearing that kind of ignorance at home.
As for the “comment” at hand, our Gov. should be stepping up to the plate, right about now..cya DePass..ur about to get the “sharpton boot”.

Even in 2009, there is still so much racism in this country. All you have to do is read some of the comments here and realize that humans (and many of these people will be the first to tell you that they are church going Christians) have a very long way to go to really understand compassion, respect and love for others who don’t look like you.

Write on Stephen!! He’s talking to u too, michellegorilla.
on June 17th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
sarah palin has nothing to do with this. her daugter CHOSE to get knocked up at a young age. that’s not morally corrupt. michelle obama “looking” like a gorilla is totally distasteful AND hateful. he had hate behind what he said; palins comment was truly jest. for godsake, letterman’s a comedian!
on June 17th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I would be a gorilla any day if I could be as bright, intelligent and stylish as Michella Obama. I would marry Dumbo if he was the sexy, handsome and very intelligent as Barack Obama
on June 18th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Too many inbreds like michellegorilla who are angry that their opinions don’t matter so they try to be hurtful. When someone’s mentality is that low, no need to try to convince them of anything, they have no power. You just pray the stupidity stops at their generation and their kids aren’t as stupid as they are.

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE THINK MICHELLE IS BEAUTIFUL?
