PHOTOS! Here again are pictures of Sammy Sosa’s face and skin then and now. Sammy Sosa’s eye color, skin, face and even hair are being debated Saturday online as the baseball great showed up Wednesday in Las Vegas looking different than when he entered the Majors in 1989.

Is the change more than just age?

Sosa is from San Pedro De Macoris in the Dominican Republic and in 1998 won the National League Most Valuable Player. But with even Yahoo News suggesting Sosa is now sporting green contacts, the question is … what has happened, if anything?

Following Sosa’s 1998 MVP award, Sosa won the ESPY Humanitarian of the Year honor. He would also earn the Roberto Clemente Award and the National League Hank Aaron Award the next year. In his 18 years, Sammy Sosa would earn 609 homeruns and 1667 RBIs.

But when Sosa appeared in Las Vegas Wednesday night, to honor music legend Juan Gabriel (previously profiled on LALATE), batting stats weren’t the focus of the press - rather everything from Sosa’s eyes to to his skin. Is Sosa wearing green contacts? Yahoo News thinks they are fake green contacts. But beyond that, is something else going on?

Tom Cruise is not dead. Tom Cruise death rumors swirl Saturday. Tom Cruise has not died by a heart attack. Cruise however is the latest victim of false celebrity death reports.

As LALATE readers have grown to learn, celebrity fake death reports most usually populate themselves on Sunday afternoons. Until summer 2009, virtually all fake death stories this year surfaced roughly at 3 pm PST on Sundays. The reason? The false reports swirl and can stay active longer on weekends than during weekday business hours.

From Kayne West, to Lil Wayne (multiple times), much of the false death reports of 2009 have struck musicians, most often rappers. The reports do strike pop musicians. But stars of classical music, jazz, and similar non mainstream genres have not been struck.

In fall 2009, the reports detoured out of music and into film stars. Today’s false Tom Cruise reports repeats that trend. Moreover, in later months this year, the use of foreign hotel stories grew - death in distant cities and unknown hotels. The net had grown suspect by midyear of the repeated celebrity death by train crash - considering most rappers tour by bus or plane, not by train.

Tom Cruise is alive. Miley Cyrus is doing well. And Lil Wayne is doing great … as is his new mixtape!

Earlier this week, Toby Keith premiered his new song honoring Wayman Tisdale. Wayman Tisdale’s death to cancer is remembered in “Crying for Me (Wayman’s Song)”, a song which remembers the life and spirit of an amazing musician and athlete.

On Monday, Toby Keith premiered Crying for Me on CMT. Tisdale died at age 44, an amazing bassist and dominant force in the world of smooth jazz. If you listen to Los Angeles’ 94.7 the Wave, you’ve heard his music.

Before his death, Wayman Tisdale delivered with Keith the cover of the Barry White classic “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Keith performed at Tisdale’s funeral. Toby tells KOCO “We had so many big plans but every time I tried to say goodbye to hm, he never would let me”.

VIDEO! Here again is YouTube video of New Mexico Women’s Soccer Elizabeth Lambert. New Mexico Elizabeth Lambert was suspended from Soccer play by her University Friday.

In a video profiled that day on LALATE, Lambert assaults BYU women’s soccer Kassidy Shumway. Now Lambert is speaking out. Lambert issued the following statement Friday:

“My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation…. This is no way indicative of my character or the soccer player I am.”

New Mexico coach Kit Vela issued the following words:

“Liz is a quality student athlete but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship.”

The video became the biggest broadcasted video of women’s soccer this month, replaying on ESPN SportsCenter and going viral online. Online reaction included the following remarks:

I? am sure her parents are sooooo proud.

hey …. ever seen american football people get? paralyzed during games

her behavior was criminal. She brings shame to her school and her sport.?

She needs to be charged with assault. I wouldn’t let her? do that to me.

In the end her team lost.

“Scott Becker Looking for April” was the opening line of AprilBecker.com, a website that Scott Becker used to find daughter April Becker.

“Scott Becker Looking for April” was what April Becker (now April Becker Antoniou) found five days ago while searching her name online. To her surprise, she had found her dad. Today they are reunited.

Thirty years ago, Dr Becker started searching for his daughter. He had no luck. Private investigators just took his money. Scott Becker spent $40,000 and got no leads. Finally 10 years ago he thought of creating a website in the hope that maybe one day April would search her name online. This week she did.

The “Scott Becker Looking for April” website reads as follows”

“Dear April, When you read this, please send an email to: april@aprilbecker.com. I’m your dad and I would really like to talk to ya. When I get your email, I will ask you a couple of questions that only you would know so I can filter out the crazies out there. Antoniou’s Facebook page is updated to read, “you think I could have … [searched] that 7 years ago and saved myself the yearly torment. But, it all happens when it happens for a reason. I’m still in shock. I was at the point where I just figured I would never meet him. Glad I was wrong. And glad he was actually still looking, after all this time.”

The two are now reunited after 30 years.
