Swine Flu’s new name is H1N1. Swine Flu’s name change to H1N1 comes as health officials are concerned people are confused thinking that they can’t get swine flu if they don’t eat pork.
Hilariously, that’s exactly what Paris Hilton said today. Did Paris have an impact on our nation’s naming of an influenza? When asked by a photographer today if Hilton was worried about getting swine flu, Hilton said no, she “doesn’t eat that”.
Now, shockingly, that is exactly what health officials said as the reason in changing the name – people are thinking the consumption of pork has something to do with getting the flu. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told press today to stop referring to it as swine flu and call it “H1N1 flu.”
“This really isn’t swine [flu], it’s H1N1 virus. And it is significant because there are a lot of hard-working families whose livelihood depends on us conveying this message.”
What Tom means is pork producers are feeling the pinch as people run away from their product, confused the same way Hilton was.
“[It's] very, very important …. Virtually anybody who’s in the pork business, in the corn business or the soybean business has potentially [felt] an impact”.
Following the press conference, U.S. officials applauded Japan for beginning the use of the term H1N1 flu also. Of course, one who hasn’t made the change – the CDC!
The CDC’s website as of today continues to use swine flu, not H1N1.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick will have twins through a surrogate! A surrogate pregnancy will give Parker and Broderick twin girls, says the couple’s rep moments ago.
The couple’s press team says they are “overjoyed”.
This would be the couple’s second and third child, already with a son. The couple gave no further explanation of why they chose a surrogate for the baby births.
