It was the 1970s and Montalbán helped introduce a new Chrysler car that carried a Spanish branded name, the Cordoba. Most people don’t remember that Ricardo’s Chrysler commercials came before Fantasy Island.

In 1975, Ricardo Montalbán made his Corinthian Leather premiere for the new Chrysler Cordoba. The stunning pronunciation of “CORDOBA” and “Soft Corinthian leather”, “fine Corinthian leather”, and “rich Corinthian leather” became cult expressions and massive marketing successes.

He would move to the New Yorker, and Le Baron.

Ricardo Montalbán, dead today at age 88. He will be greatly, greatly missed.
