orson, watch your step. if you step outside liberal othodoxy, and speak the truth, you will be punished. i believe you have written your own ticket to the coming re-education camps. maybe some good writing will come out of your imprisonment. good luck dude. thanks for trying.

I'd call Mr. Card a cherry-picker. He picked up just the pieces that fit his view and fleshed it out. But in his defense his is an opinion piece. If you really want to follow the money, look at Mr. Gramm, the "mental recession, nation of whiners" guy just a few months ago. He rigged the game by spearheading the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act and went straight to UBS to cash in. Poor people didn't invent financial derivatives, or default credit swaps, they didn't whisper in the ear of the bond ratings agencies, so let's not blame the CRA (passed 30 years ago) for this problem. And I'd say that our problem is there isn't enough liberal media bias - who could possibly drown out Limbaugh-Hannity-O'Reilly without the help of a reinstated Fairness Doctrine?

Loved the Ender series, and the Songmaster. But you are dead wrong on blaming the Democrats on this one. This is the death spasms of supply-side economics we're going through now, and you can hang that directly on the Republicans.

Sorry, Orson, you're wrong. Whenever I read someone smart say stupid things and present information in a blatantly one-sided manner I get really disappointed. Have no doubt, Orson is a wordsmith and knows what he's doing, but he's lying.

To say that Bush/Cheney never linked 9/11 and Saddam Hussein is a lie. Did they give a specific sentence that said exactly that? No, they're smarter than that. But they did everything they could to insinuate, and Orson acts like their words were never written down! We're not all idiots, Orson.

And, remarkably enough, not even a mention of the deregulation legislation (added as a last-minute amendment) by Phil Gramm (McCain's chief economic advisor and likely to be nominated for Treasury Sec'y if McCain is elected), which most economists have pointed to as a major contributing factor to the housing crisis.

Orson, I love your books. I have more than a dozen downstairs and both my kids have read the Ender series. But you gotta know when NOT to tell stories. This Op-Ed piece is a work of fiction by exclusion. You've masterfully excluded any mention of any fault of the Republicans who had unchallanged control of the House, the Senate, and the Presidency for 6 straight years! It is a disappointment to see how intellectually dishonest you are with your political opinions.

Tell me why I should vote Republican when they didn't do anything about this crisis for 6 years?! If I move into a house and there's a broken window, 8 years down the road I'm not still blaming the former owners. No, I should've fixed that window. Quit whining about how it is all the Dem's fault when the Reps had control of the government for 6 straight years. 9/11? Clinton's fault. Katrina? Clinton's fault. Stock market? Dem's fault.

Responsibility is a foreign term to Republicans.
