People says “Many” Clay Aiken Fans Feel “Betrayal”

Posted on October 6th, 2008 in Clay Aiken by lalate

Clay Aiken

Question of the Day - do you agree with People Magazine’s new article today on Clay Aiken?

What do you think?

In September 24 story here, People ran an article which said “Some Mixed Reactions. Still, a few “Claymates” are taking the news hard. “

Now today in October 6, 2008 story here by the same author, People links to the September 24 article but now says “many”. “Writing on various message boards, many Aiken fans expressed feelings of betrayal by the American Idol alum.”

“Many”? “Betrayal”?

What do you think?

For LALATE - we’ve been a fan of Clay Aiken and of course remained a fan of Clay Aiken. But when Aiken music news or great Aiken charity work on projects like Unicef receives on some other websites none or nominal coverage, that’s not right.

Update - in case you missed it, click HERE to read the awesome new blog post by Clay Aiken! It’s incredible.

After checking several Clay Aiken mb’s the “many” should be those who support Clay still, not feeling betrayal. Those who can’t accept seem to be the ones searched out and sited in the media, but are in the minority from what I see. People predicted that Clay’s fan base was largely homophobic–they are wrong. The ones who are homophobic are the people around the internet still dissing Clay for being gay and those aren’t the fans.

Sullivan would have either, A)spent hours and hours searching for “one” post to support his theory, or B)his check cleared.;)

    Clay’s fans are doing fine

I’m a fan of Clays and belong to a few messageboards. The predominant feeling is one of support. People may want to check their facts.,,,as if they care about facts…

The overwhelming majority have supported Clay Aiken. Leave it to the media to only want to report the negative ones. It would also be nice, for once, if the media would report the entire quote in context, not just the parts that they want it to say. Why not post the entire blog instead of only the part that makes it seem more negative than it is? That’s the state of journalism and the media today.

I’ve been a Clay Aiken fan since ‘03. His sexual orientation makes no difference to me. I love the man’s voice and he is a wonderful entertainer. I fully support him.

The media is ALWAYS looking for something bad to say about Clay Aiken and/or his fans.

The man is doing just fine and the majority of his fans are still loving and supporting him. Sure, he’s going to lose some fans but it’s their loss not his.

And, yes, it would be nice it they would quote him correctly instead of leaving whole sentences out of what they report.

The support for Clay has always and still is strong. The complainers are a very small group that make a lot of noise, nothing new there. Amazing how the so called writers can sniff out the negative thinking of the few.

Clay is Clay and nothing has changed. I’m a big fan, always have been and always will be. I do believe the majority of his fans will stick with them. He has treated his fans with more respect, compassion and understanding than any other celebrity in my opinion. I am honoured to be a fan of Clay Aiken and I have never judged anyone on their sexual orientation, race, religion or anything else. As one of his fans said, I can’t love in little pieces. I love the whole man for what he has done and will continue to do, entertain his fans, promote his foundation and UNICEF. The big question on most of his fans’ minds now is “When is the next tour?” ‘Nuff said.

As the old saying goes…”a mountain out of a molehill.”

It takes little to make up a story these days. In fact, if I had a dime for every time… :)

It’s really a shame that the media has not chosen to highlight all the good that Clay has accomplished during the past 5 1/2 yrs., but has constantly searched out the negative. He has held his head up high and continued to work for the betterment of children not only in the US, but all over the world. In between UNICEF trips and raising money for his foundation, he has skillfully entertained fans who travel from all over to attend his concerts. The vast majority will continue to do so. It’s sad that a very small minority of fans feel they can no longer support Clay, and even sadder that the media has chosen to highlight those few.

People needs a new fact checker. The boards I read are overwhelmingly supportive of Clay. With his permission, his blog was posted on quite a few of his fan message boards.

Changing the word “some” to “many” puts a whole different spin on the truth. The mass exodus some were expecting hasn’t happened because the media never did have an accurate grasp of just how diverse Clay’s fan base truly is.

As CGS said, the complainers are a small group who make a lot of noise.

Clay’s fanbase is diverse. Some wil leave, most will stay and new fans will come. The People writer is just trying to write his own story by using pieces of Clays blog. The blog should be read in it’s entirety.

LaLate you have been so supportive of Clay. Why didn’t you post Clays blog on your site instead of this story?

  14. Pat said,

I believe that 90 % of Clay’s fan have no problem with his announcement. But as usual, the media has singled out the ones who are unhappy and made it sound like they were the majority. I wish you would post his blog also.

Count me in on the ranks of the many Clay fans who don’t feel any betrayal.
Clay is still the same wonderful man I have admired for the past 5 years, and his private life is none of my business.

Well, I will say it, I was expecting baby pictures, not a personal revelation. It took me by surprise.I would have liked a heads up, but what is, is. It is not like I am family or anything..

I am a fan of a talented funny witty singerman. The only way he could betray me is if he stopped singing. If God forbid he did that, then come back and ask me about betrayal. But right now I’m good.

  18. Linda said,

Being a fan of Clay’s for the last 5+ years, I’ve watched the media pick and choose the message board posts that they use to portray the majority of fans. Too bad that they got it wrong again as usual.

The majority of Clay’s fans are here to stay. There is a small percentage who are still coming to terms with his announcement (both being gay and the new baby), but they are still here.

An even smaller percentage have left completely, but I doubt there was anything Clay, you or I could say to change their minds.

Clay’s blog has been quoted in various places in the media, yet they don’t use the whole blog, nor do they quote him correctly. Surprising? Hardly. But what I don’t understand is why, when the blog is so readily available, that they were so foolish to do it in the first place.

Apparently the writer at People Mag has an agenda. Heaven forbid the previous cover article should be left alone. He just had to point out how badly this is reflecting on the fandom.

When all is said and done, the fandom will be stronger than before and the writers/bloggers/etc. who try to tear Clay and the fans down will see that it was all for naught!

Under the circumstances, I could imagine a wife feeling betrayed. But a fan???? If there actually is a fan who feels betrayed, they had a fantasy that didn’t exist and need to get over it. All of the fan boards that I go to still love Clay Aiken….no betrayal that I can see.

OMG…No wonder I don’t read any of the various articles on these tabloid sites (and yes, I consider People to be a Tabloid). Except for the recent article. He’s still the same good man, humanitariun and sexy singer guy I knew before. Also, from what I see, the majority of his fans are still with him. I’m looking forward to his tours in the future, but, for right now, I’m enjoying him in Spamalot.

  21. Musicfan said,

    on October 7th, 2008 at 11:55 am

Why do the authors of these articles always wan t to post to their agenda?? A little research on their part would show that most Clay fans are supporting Clay completely. Of course, there are the few that feel betrayed and, of course, they are the most vocal.

Clay has many, many wonderful fans who don’t care at all about his sexuality. They care that he is a great singer and entertainer and a man who chooses to make a difference in the world.

People Magazine………….how about an article about Clay and his charities. That would be much more entertaining and relevant.

  22. sam said,

    on October 7th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

Sure, some fans would feel betrayed for various reasons, but mostly because they trusted his word on that subject and it turned out to be not truthful in that instance. But by far the most of that group can understand and appreciate the hows and whys of that and know that there was also nothing wrong with respecting him enough to believe him.

So, you’ve got fans that didn’t have a problem to start with, and fans that did but are ok with it now - and a really really small group that either aren’t fans anymore or are still struggling with some aspects.

That’s the very small percentage People is making sound like a big noise. Ridiculous. I think the story should be just how many fans are still big fans regardless. It’s pretty cool to inspire that kind of loyalty in fans that Clay Aiken does.

  23. sharon said,

None of Clay’s fans should feel betrayed. I’ve loved and enjoyed Clay since American Idol. He is who he is and I still love his work. He is an outstanding young man. I will always be a Clay Aiken fan.

Being a Clay fan has made me never ever buy magazines or tabloids ( just about every thing in them is a lie or useless information) and I think all fans should do the same.If we all refuse to buy the rubbish, they wont be able to print it. I am much happier since. I try to change what I can, accept what I cant change,(OMG Clay is gay!!! Sob !!!! What a waste) and try to have the wisdom to know the difference. I love his voice, it is unbelievably good.

    Love Clay Always and Forever
The boards I’ve seen are overwhelmingly supportive of Clay. Came for the voice stay for the man is more than just a saying - it is a feeling of joy unconfined.

  26. Kathy said,

Many?!? As defined by whom? The writer is depending on sensationalism to “sell” his story. Check the boards … MANY (the majority) of his fans are supporting him…just point me in the direction of Clay’s next tour and I’ll be there.

  27. sienna said,

As far as I know, Clay is a kind and caring human being. It’s time to move on!

  28. Kim said,

I would go for the phrase “a small minority of Clay fans” rather than “many” . I have read hundreds of warm ,supportive posts on Clay message boards and a few who are having a problem . Not bad for such a large , diverse group of passionate people .

Clay blogged to his fans recently , ” I am FOREVER FOREVER in love with you all. ” . I am one of many who FOREVER FOREVER loves him back .

  29. Ann said,

I think the People article is fine with the exception of saying MANY fans have left Clay. It’s just not true. Most o Clay’s fans are still here and always will be. As Lacy said “we came for the voice and stayed for the man”. Clay is still the same man he always was. As Kim said most of us are FOREVER, FOREVER in love with him.
BTW I really love Lalate. You are the best too!!
