Selena Quintanilla Perez was murdered at age 23 on March 31, 1995 by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar.
Selena was the queen of Tejano music, traditionally male dominated. In the years following her death, that latin explosion in english language pop charges would follow with Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and others.
After Selena’s death, “Dreaming of You”, her English language crossover, went on to sell 300,000 copies in its first week. Chris Perez years later would eventually remarry.
Now reportedly, over a decade after Selena’s death, her family is releasing with Mexican variety show host Johnny Canales a DVD of Selena’s performances on the “The Johnny Canales Show.”

We’re a black family and we did not know selena until afterwards, but once we knew who she was we loved her ever since. We play her music and watch her videos. We even try to sing and dance like her. We miss and love her

you know it’s been over 14 years and her death is still touching so many people’s hearts around the world…i guess someone as truly angeic as she was does this, and is supposetodo his…it was a tragic and bitter loss to this world, not just music,not just Texas, just to her fans, family, Mexican heritage, American heritage, Mexican American heritage, but all of this cmbined with this wold…i grieve her death after so many years—i miss her dearly and cry over what happened to her, the pain she had to endure, the blood she lost–the dream that ended too soon for her, even though she had accomplished so much already in her career…she will always reign supreme in music, tejano music, tex mex music, she will always be a guardian angel to so many people who adored her humility and love her and miss her like i do. she is nowa guardian angel to me…and i’m going to cry now guys and girls, so i’ll end ths here…rest in peace forever la reina….
