Ed Hochuli Email!

Below read the Ed Hochuli email. Ed Hochuli is reportedly sending the below email saying he’s sorry for a recent referee NFL decision.
The email by Hochuli, a 19 year veteran referee with the NFL, is in response to reported disgust by fans to a blown whistle by him during a fumble. That fumble was during the San Diego Chargers Denver Broncos game.
The blown whistle was wrong and reportedly cost the SD the game. Now Ed has been getting emails in response to his call, says online chatter today.
Ed reportedly has been writing them with this. No confirmation from Ed Hochuli if in fact this is his email, appearing across the net within the hour.
I’m getting hundreds of emails – hate mail – but I’m responding to it all. People deserve a response.
You can rest assured that nothing anyone can say can make me feel worse than I already feel about my mistake on the fumble play. You have no idea . . .
Affecting the outcome of a game is a devastating feeling. Officials strive for perfection – I failed miserably. Although it does no good to say it, I am very, very sorry.
Ed Hochuli

Ed, I just want to say you’re a great ref. I’m a Lions fan from Michigan and would enjoy seeing you work all of our games. Overall you make great calls and know the rules very well and will go into great detail to explain the rule when needed. I would take one big mistake for a season of accuracy. Good Luck the rest of the season, hope to see you in Detroit, and keep your chin up. -Ben

Ed,
If you can read this, your a great ref. Your human and mistakes can be made. When I was younger I had to referee a basketball camp and I made horrible calls, and its hard to do when people are yelling at you and everything else they can do, and I felt horrible, and that was a high school basketball camp! I respect what you do and give you praise for stepping out on that field and doing what you do and be almost perfect at it. The whole NFL fan base has seen much worse calls than this one, and if you put on of those stupid fans on the field that is bitching, he couldnt make one good call or come close to doing what you do.
Keep up the great work!

I agree with the other commenters. People make mistakes. Ed has admitted he made a mistake, and even apologized for it. It’s time to be gracious and move on, just like I’m sure we all hope that others will do when we (inevitably) screw up. Chin up, Ed. This, too, will pass.

I have been a Charger fan since 1964, as referees go I think you are one of the best. You have shown a great deal of class and integrity over the years and this situation has not changed my opinion of you. The Chargers had two additional chances to win the game after the call. Teams and players need to understand that they control their destiny, if one call would affect their game that much they have already allowed their opponent to be to close. Please continue to be the best of the class of NFL referees. Keep your head up!
Best wishes

I have, over the years, joyfully anticipated any game refereed by you, Ed. When I first heard them announce you as a ref, I took notice. It seems to add authenticity, legitimacy, and credence to the whole game. I always know that you will have things under control. I don’t have to worry that you’re taking money under the table or behind a door to throw a game. Good man. I’m willing to “Give a kid a break.” How many games have had obvious mistakes made in the past with even the announcers reviewing film and making opposing calls? Quite a few. People have to have a scapegoat these days to just have somebody to blame. I’m sending you these positive comments so that you will be encouraged to stick around. NOBODY’S PERFECT…at least nobody here on earth today. There is a Zulu proverb that says, “The lead cow (the one in the front) gets whipped the most.” You are in front, you are a leader among referees. Be encouraged, and please don’t make a permanent decision based on a temporary situation.
–with all kinds of fan love.

Ed, I’m not going to bash you like the other idiots.. I’ve been a Chargers fan since 1978..I realize your human and you made a mistake on the game last week.. I don’t blame YOU personally for the chargers loss.. I blame the Defense for this loss.. I do however thank you for admitting your mistake right away.. Don’t let the charger fans get too you, they are just upset with the way the season has started.. Your still a great ref in my book.. Good Luck with the rest of the season!!

Ed,
I have watched you ref games for years. I have always considered you as the best in the business. In todays world, I hold people in high regard who admit their mistakes without hesitation. I make mistakes everyday. You are still the best in the business. Our Chargers down here lost the game by not having a defense long before that last Denver drive.
Regards,
Mark

Mr. Hochuli,
You are one of the best if not the best refs in football. We are all human and can make mistakes. You readily acknowledged the error. The NFL rules are what prevented you from making it right. You are a man of the highest integrity, and the game would be much poorer without you on the field. Thank you for your honesty and great ability.
Highest Regards,
Bart

Dear Mr. Hochuli,
The fact that you made a mistake only proves you’re human. The fact that you owned up to it and apologized to Coach Turner as well as facing the onslaught of an angry fan base only proves you’re a man of honor and one for whom I have great respect. You’re to be commended for how you’ve handled yourself.
I don’t hear anyone talking about how the Chargers still had two chances to make a single stop but were unable to do so. They failed to do so the previous week as well. The Chargers didn’t lose that game because of one call. They lost because they were outperfomed by the other team.
Sincerely,
Donn Boyd

Ed,
You are one of, if not the classiest referee in the NFL. Your admission and acceptance of responsibility for the mistake in Denver is proof of that. I think it is extraordinary that so many San Diego fans, myself included, are willing to forgive you for this. If it were possible to “re-do” the game, you would be my first choice to go back in there and officiate. If Chargers fans are willing to forgive you, I hope you are able to forgive yourself and continue to do the great job you have always done.
Sincerely,
Tim Rushing

Ed,
You are to be commended for the way you have handled yourself over this mistake. You immediately admitted your mistake and have taken full responsibility. There is nothing else that can be done.
You should be considered more of an inspiration and role model to others, inside the NFL as well as outside, as how they should conduct themselves when they make their next mistake.
You are the best Referee in the league. Please do not allow this to affect your continued success!

Ed,
I am sorry but I have watched the fumble a hundred times and can in no way see how you blew that call. After a few “questionable” calls during last years playoffs I am starting to question the integrity of the sport. I have been a fan since birth but I think I will find a new passion - thanks.

Ed- You can sleep at night because your mistake, although horrendous and pitiful, merely changed the outcome of a simple game. To put it in perspective, if you were a physician and your mistake killed a patient, the medical board would consider pulling your license. In the real world, knowing that your mistake devastated you is pretty much a joke. Stick to law and maybe you can sue yourself for pain and suffering.
